@ClintWhitney @mhp_guy Go to the paint store (Sherwin Williams or Glidden) after the professional painters grab their paint in the morning and the place empties out - maybe 11 am. Talk to the staff there and let them know what you are looking for. Need someone who is insured? A 2 man crew etc.

@mhp_guy Chris this is awesome. how are you finding these guys to do the jobs so much “cheaper”. That’s my biggest hang up. We need our house painted and I’m getting $20,000 quotes for a 2100 square foot home. (In Alaska). Absolutely bonkers.

@SMB_Attorney I spent 2 days touring St Jude a while back and left with a couple of observations a) these children are the strongest people I have ever met. They carry their families on their shoulders b) the staff there are God’s hands on earth.

@CostaKapo Good post. I work for a company which is funded by a friendly holding company that acts like PE. They have helped take several companies public or other lucrative exits over the years. Definitely a win/win.

Since Private Equity is the topic du jour I will share my experience with selling to private equity, operating under that entity, and then buying out all the shareholders. 1st thing is, Private Equity isn't the boogey man.

@Parkerlawyer @Delta Recently had a several hour delay and I cancelled the trip. Got a refund for $35 (luggage). A few days later got the refund for the ticket, plus another for a change that was made - over $509. It could take a week or do to get the full refund.

I am a very loyal customer @delta. Our flight was cancelled Monday due to a multitude of things including weather and the pilots exceeding their time. We spent 8 hours at the airport and 2 hours in the plane on the tarmac just to turn around and be told that new pilots will be here “any minute.” We got multiple updates on our app saying our flight would be boarding in an hour, then another hour, then another hour, then it was cancelled. Mind you other planes from different airlines were taking off to our same destination with no issue during this time. (Weather no longer a factor). We then had to leave the airport in an uber ($58) and go to a hotel ($179) eat bc we were famished ($75) then wake up and have breakfast ($30) then uber to the NEW airport 54 miles away ($150) - bc they said they had no flights for us at our original departing airport- then eat at airport prices ($60) then board and fly home a full 30 HOURS after our original flight was to depart. Husband and I both missed full days of work and had to have other attorneys stand in for us at hearings. There is no cost reflective of that as both our clients had to appear without their known counsel in very stressful situations. I kindly asked Delta for a refund of our $551 each ticket price for the extreme inconvenience and costs associated with the cancellation. Today, I received a singular refund of $59. FIFTY-NINE DOLLARS?!!?! Customer service used to mean something. Which airline should replace @delta? I have never flown any other airline, but my loyalty means nothing to them. Let me know in the comments who is the best. We fly out of ATL for every flight.

@skylarromines @SMB_Attorney Detroit takes a beating due to all of the automotive parts that are made in Canada and Mexico. They already have a problem with car prices being so expensive. I don’t expect that to improve.

🚨 Big business news: The U.S. has just canceled the de minimis exemption for Chinese imports. This impacts small shipments from China significantly. Previously, items valued under $800 entered the U.S. duty-free. Now, all imports from China will be taxed. Many believe this will increase costs for consumers. E-commerce giants like Shein and Temu are going to be hit hard and Amazon will benefit significantly. Companies are now forced to rethink their supply chains. The goal is to balance trade with China. It addresses concerns over counterfeit goods and security. There might be a surge in demand for American-made products. This could redefine how global trade works. I’ll keep watching as it develops.

The Phoenix Suns lowered their arena concessions to $2. A water, soda, popcorn, and hot dog used to run you $31. Now, that’s $8. And the crowd is going wild. But why? — Let’s talk about how we got here. Everybody’s used to getting screwed at concession stands. It’s the easiest way to profit off a captive audience. And the profit is insane — a hot dog and water might cost the stadium $1, and they’ll pocket $19. It’s addictive for businesses. But price inflation like this only works when your product is in high demand. And the reality is, the NBA isn’t booming. NBA viewership peaked in the late 90s, and has stagnated since… until this year when viewership cratered 20%. That’s not sustainable, no matter what kind of business you’re in. — There’s lots of debate about the cause. Some people think it’s because there’s no heir to LeBron James and the American superstar. (Because America tends to like American-born heroes more than foreign players.) Some people say the game has been “solved,” there are too many 3-pointers, and it’s too boring. I used to buy season tickets because it was a “see and be seen” social event. But especially post-Covid, it’s mostly been corporations giving out tickets to their employees. There’s zero social scene anymore. — Back to the Phoenix Suns — the owner’s a pretty smart guy. He’s found a way to get butts back in seats. And he’s also sending an emotional message to fans: “I care about you.” It’s a good move because he’s picked a highly visible source of revenue. Nothing feels more painful than forking over $10 for a $0.90 hot dog. But in reality, concessions barely matters to the NBA. They make their money from TV, jersey sales, licensing, seat sales. So it’s easy to give a big discount on <1% of your total revenue. And if the hype sells a few more season ticket packages, it’s totally worth it for the rich guys. — The takeaway: any business can do this. Find something in your offering that’s really visible, but doesn’t meaningfully affect your core business. Make a visible sacrifice there, and you can win big everywhere else.

My thoughts on Trump's reelection. A 🧵 One of the eternal tensions in life is that between what is good for the individual and what is good for society. This is expressed in the phrase "Liberty and Justice" in the American pledge of allegiance.

@rohindhar The lenders cut the opening bid. Let's say the loan was for a million they would start the bidding at $500,000 for an investor to purchase. Of course, offering the same type of terms to the homeowner didn't start untill the markets were decimated.

People that were active in real estate during the Great Financial Crisis when the housing market crashed (2007 to 2012)... Did good properties at okay prices still sell easily during that time period? Or did *nothing* really sell at all in those days without a fire sale?

@gas_biz Got it! They want you to donate the land. This can have a lot of value depending on your basis as you won’t have to pay capital gains on the proceeds. So let’s say you paid $100 for the land but now it’s wirth $1,000. You get the $1,000 charitable deduction WITHOUT showing income
