First new article in a while! Deep dive into rebuilding our capacity to address traffic violence. Thousands of people will die on American streets this year. It doesn't need to be this way. samadrangoonwala.substack.com/p/turning-off-…

What should the vision for I-77 South in Charlotte look like? The question comes down to who we're really building for: cars, big business and road builders, or for the people of Charlotte? The folks at @Sustain_CLT want to hear your ideas! Learn more about how here: sustaincharlotte.org/reimagining-i7…

@clarkh1963 @bbalkus @Empty_America There is quite a lot of reason to believe a class exclusively of 1580+ scorers would be worse overall then one with a distribution that averages 1550

If Harvard admitted students strictly by SAT score, filling slots in descending order starting at 1600, what would be the lowest SAT score admitted to the school? And what would be the resulting demographics of the student body?

The way to defend democracy when people lose faith in it is not to endlessly say it works. It’s to prove it is the best system by making it work for normal people. Fix the roads. Build more housing. Make college / trade schools cheaper. Cut the cost of meds. Fight corruption.

one thing i really do enjoy about zohran mamdani's mayoralty is that the far left has kind of taken over the image of governing efficiently + fixing municipal problems quickly, something establishment democrats look stupid trying to ignore. if u want shit to work vote socialist
Majority Democrats@MajorityDems

Elissa Slotkin to Bill Maher: “The average person just wants shit to work. I don’t give a shit if you’re a Republican, a Democrat, an Independent—just live in the zone of practicality. And the far right and the far left live in a different universe.”

"The triumph of congestion pricing also offers a larger reminder: Government, done right, has immense power to improve people’s lives....Leaders should instead take political risks, as officials in New York did, to create programs that can deliver tangible results."
Congestion Pricing Now@FundTransitNow

The New York Times editorial board today gets it right: congestion pricing works and is here to stay. nytimes.com/2026/03/27/opi…

@SriouslyUnsrius @CantEverDie It says that there are less people moving into the metro areas not that anyone is leaving. What do you think a decrease in net immigration means?

@DeathLepricon @uzidmanslefttit @hell_line0 Because the restrictions can and will kill women when a necessary abortion is deemed elective to prevent against litigation and prosecution. As has happened across the country since Dobbs. Did you just learn about externalities?

Late-term abortions (occurring 21 week) account for less than 1% of abortions performed annually in the USA. There are 8 facilities across the country that will perform a LTA, and access to it is HIGHLY restricted and regulated. No woman is walking into one of these facilities at 39 weeks pregnant and requesting an elective abortion because they no longer want to be pregnant. Stay in your lane and stop discussing things you clearly lack understanding of.

@FavaMandies @BrentToderian @IanLockwoodPE The elected city council officials in Austin were against the project. It was selected despite that because it would benefit the suburbs at the expense of the City of Austin, because of the anti-democratic voting structure on the board that control regional transportation funds

Practically everything he found was price-gouging from contractors or outsourcing. The mindbending part of DOGE was that it was going to increase public spending by cutting public staff. Building state capacity saves money.
Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani@NYCMayor

Government must deliver for working people—and every dollar in our budget should work as hard as they do. That’s why I directed every agency to cut waste and help close our budget gap. Here’s some of what we found.

"Government can't do anything" is because instead of hiring people to build things, we spend 3X as much to hire consultants. It shows up on the budget as programmatic spending rather than staffing, but we could give staff the capacity to do work internally and save immensely

@FavaMandies @BrentToderian @IanLockwoodPE Regional transportation planning boards which control the outflow of federal funding often have voting structures that empower fragmented suburban communities at the expense of cities. Austin’s MPO approved a highway plan through downtown over the objections of city reps

@steviewelles55 @mt_pheasant @PippengerHarlo Depends on the type, I’d include tax credits and deferred/lowered impact fees for TOD with minimal parking. Research says 5-10% off the top from reduced permitting time and costs. You can can get significant more per unit cost reductions via messing FAR and setbacks
