Remember the days when people in public office would resign over any mildly dishonourable behaviour as the right thing? #DominicCummings

@Heretixx66 @QcWynter It makes no sense to say “just the details” because “details” are exactly that- specific & detailed. It would make more sense to say “just a summary/ top line”. To put “just” with “details” is a strange non sequitur & why would friends use this odd formulation as well as family?

Speaking to an old friend yesterday - a very bright chap - he told me about the one scar that he carries from childhood. Whenever he was asked by friends or family to say or explain something, it would come with the request, "just the details". Haunts him still at the age of 66.

@soulsexpert @Variety The Bridesmaids stuff was pointless and unfunny. It added nothing - instead these people were very rudely deprived of their once in a lifetime opportunity to thank & acknowledge. Worse as they were speaking in a foreign language. @TheAcademy has its priorities fucked up #Oscars

The executive producer of the #Oscars explains why the orchestra cut off the "KPop Demon Hunters'" "Golden" songwriters during their speech. "One thing, as we post mortem for next year, will be to look at how we’re handling speeches. You win the Oscar, you know you go on stage, it could be one person, it could be five or six. Immediately you’ll see the sort of allotted time we have for them. Do we need to look at it and say, okay, designate one person to speak. Maybe you continue it backstage, and we have a feed on social or something like that." "We look at everything and figure out what is the most elegant solution, because it is difficult, especially when you’re cutting somebody off and it’s their one moment. We talk about it at the award luncheon, that you have this designated time to speak, and it’s difficult. I don’t know what the most elegant solution is, but it’s obviously something we should look really, really long and hard at." variety.com/2026/tv/news/o…

@mumzles1 @JacquiDeevoy1 @JambiNumbski @jason_a69 Books are required to be rescanned automatically if they show up as paper wads (thick or 2+ together) because concern is they could be or concealing wads of cash notes (currency smuggling). I know this as it happened to me so I asked about it. Now I take the books out of the bag.

Dear airport experts, I’d be very grateful if you could explain airport security to me again. I watch 20 or more people go through but I’m the only one told to remove my shoes. Every time. Meanwhile, the bottle of water in my handbag isn’t spotted. They make you take off your coat, your jacket, your belt yet the body scanner can see through all that. They unpack my tightly packed rucksack and scan two books with a hand-held scanner. Then tell me to repack. Why? The weight of hand luggage is limited, as is the number of bags. Yet, airside, you can buy as much stuff as you want - any weight in any number of bags - and take it on the plane. Yours sincerely, Baffled of Heathrow

@doydeb10 I think Teyana Taylor (never heard of her til I saw crazy ‘bad loser’ leaping up clapping vid) must have been high, on drugs rather than drunk. V erratic behaviour-got in a red carpet row about shoving, mad clapping & then this- putting P T Anderson in a choke hold!!! #Oscars

@HRHCatherine Reminds me of Oscar Wilde “the only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about”. The only thing worse than being an assassination risk is having no one interested in assassinating you! #PrinceHarry can’t accept he is irrelevant to Royal family’s seat of power

Holy crap, Prince Harry thinks he ‘risked assassination’ by using a train in England. He is utterly deranged.

@goonerterry @piersmorgan You are wrong. Being arrested is enough. No need to be charged for contempt laws to apply. See Contempt of Court Act 1981 s.2 & definition of “active” Sch 1 paras 2 to 4 . “The initial steps of criminal proceedings are:— (a) arrest without warrant;” legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1981/49

@pjcnet15 @Askrigg_lad What utter nonsense. Objecting to massive buildings that are places of worship for foreign religion is not “Islamophobic”. It’s objecting to active promotion of a foreign religion & culture. You can have a tolerant society without encouraging more of it . Mosque in the Vatican?

@Askrigg_lad A place for worship for the Muslim families of Furness General Hospital staff, who currently use Barrow Cricket Club for prayer meetings. Nothing wrong with that unless you're Islamophobic. Artist impression of completed building:

This is the massive mosque that, for some reason, is being built in our beautiful Lake District. No one, other than muslims, would be allowed to destroy our countryside in this way. Whoever authorised this eyesore should be arrested and locked up for a VERY long time.

@WeirdMedieval @HiddenYorkshire I think it’s more likely that mermaids & dragons came via Chinese whispers. There were no cameras. Someone describing a seal/crocodile/Komodo dragon to person who’d never seen one who then describes it to another etc. it’s not hard to see ‘2 flippers like arms’ becoming ‘arms’.

@HiddenYorkshire YES same with the whole dragons/giants came from people seeing fossils and vampires came from people seeing hair/nails grow after death and every other silly theory of that kind

ANOTHER THING I HATE is the idea that mermaids originated from sailors mistaking seals for women. I think people are a lot more complex than that. Can a seal look like a woman? Sure. But these are people who could navigate across oceans by the stars. They weren't stupid.

@wallaceme Quite. & a government website! Bear in mind Lloyds bank this week had a major failure - customers logging onto the app were seeing strangers details. We can be sure a commercial private bank have more money to invest in tech security than our government. #DigitalID anyone? Nope.
