Remember the days when people in public office would resign over any mildly dishonourable behaviour as the right thing? #DominicCummings

@pambizbuster @hwallop @hackneycouncil Modern changes are rarely for the better. Things peaked in the 70s/80s & since then everything inc public spaces has gone down hill. It’s why the term enshitification exists. Life has been ruined by excessive health & safety, high energy costs & the mad grip of ecolobbyists

@hwallop @hackneycouncil What a shame Changes aren't always for the better We had a wonderful outdoor pool here in Cleethorpes that my Dad had enjoyed as a boy and we spent many happy days as kids there It was replaced with a leisure centre with indoor pool but I would much rather be at the old pool

In Covid @hackneycouncil closed much-loved, v useful paddling pool which had lasted for 90yrs. Yes, it needed a bit of a revamp possibly. They replaced it with £0.5m far smaller ‘splash zone’ elsewhere. Which has lasted 4yrs before it’s broken (just in time for heatwave) 🤦‍♂️

What's happening? This shit, right outside my house. On Whit Monday. I'm sure this is illegal. They've been at it for hours. If it was due to rain, I could understand it. But the weather forecast is for fine weather tomorrow. Do it then, please. My ears are bleeding. Rant over.

@RosieHollydnns @CatArthurian @obioneyouknowme Ha ha. That’s a shitty job to do at any time for low pay even with a leaf blower. A rake would be backbreaking & take twice as long. I bet you’d struggle to find anyone willing to do it at all.

Anyone else been asked to renew their subscription to the Telegraph? I’ve just received a huge shock. It’s gone up to £379 a year. I’m afraid that is one increase too far…

@CatArthurian @obioneyouknowme A lot of people go away over a holiday weekend. It maybe a deliberate choice to do it today on that basis- likely to disturb fewer people as most are away or not in the house, out doing a bank holiday activity of some sort.

@obioneyouknowme It's a public holiday here. You know, that day when you invite family over for brunch or lunch or a bbq, a time to get together and relax. Or at least, that's what we do here.

@Nickkg1979 @ghostofgoose5 There is a big difference. People tend to shout into the speaker to overcome background noise. Volume is much louder than normal speech. Reply through the speaker has a different quality to normal speech & usually has background noise relayed. Both irritating & antisocial.

@ghostofgoose5 Is he allowed to have a full blown conversation out loud with the person sat at the table with him? Not much difference, is there?

People really annoy me. These arseholes are having a full blown conversation on the phone with loudspeaker, he's also puffing cherry vape fumes everywhere 😡😡. The conversation is mind bendingly boring & his horrible skinny hairy legs look like they fell off a dead sparrow.

@ghostofgoose5 More than once I’ve seen stranger just join into a speaker phone conversation & when challenged say equivalent of “oh I’m sorry I thought given you were broadcasting it to us all it was a public conversation”. It’s a brilliant way to deal with such anti-social selfish trash

@KarlMuth that on the day they will produce a better answer. Even if the top students break rank, if the rest of them stick together then they will all pass and should get a B+. The actual B+ students are no worse off and the weaker students get a higher grade. 2/2

@KarlMuth If this takes place in a classroom/exam hall and if it’s graded on a curve, all of the students weaker students should agree to just adopt the B+answer. In a standard class few (say generously 20% but probably less) will be A minus or higher students & there is no guarantee. /1

I know there are many (understatement) approaches to AI use where students are being evaluated, and that there is variation between disciplines and levels of study, but I thought I'd share one and perhaps stoke the debate. Anyone (including my students) is welcome to comment...

They’d be better off spending that time getting @HMCTSgovuk to first decrease the court back log and repair leaking courts, lifts that don’t work & a crumbling court estate that no one at all wants to work in. #JudicialAndLegalDiversityBoard @juroberts_julia @MaidstoneCCLift

@tw83425902 @LucyTrims @Ameer_Kotecha Of course it is identifiable to you in many ways even if you use a fake name. Your credit card - how do you pay? Your address. Your email. If you online shop, your browser profile. All big stores have CCTV. Many in the UK have screens in your face at self checkout.

@sofiaxsmith @LucyTrims @Ameer_Kotecha You don't need to hand over personal data to get a Clubcard. True, much can be assumed from your purchases, but it's not personally identifiable to you. The toxicity happens if you use an App...that is where the real action is, not a loyalty card with a made up name.

@tw83425902 @LucyTrims @Ameer_Kotecha Yes but handing over all your personal data isn’t. Your card will give your age, sex and home and purchases will show whether you are in a family or single, male or female gender, menstruating, healthy , ill, vegetarian, wealthy, etc. A loyalty card makes you a tradable commodity

@girl75219 @SarahWoods66 “Years ago” = pre-social media influencer nonsense. #Chelsea is insane now & seems 70% of people there aren’t actually interested in the gardens anyway just want to “seen to be seen”there & photograph themselves for Instagram.Look at photo above- serious overcrowding @The_RHS

Not my usual tweet but I want a little rant. I got gifted 2 tickets to the Chelsea Flower Show so went with a friend yesterday. We paid for an overnight stay in a hotel, train fares and food. I can honestly say it was AWFUL. It was unbelievably busy with huge numbers of people making it impossible to walk - we were just shoved along by the crowd. I couldn’t see any of the show gardens because the fight to see them was 5 people deep. Even if you did get to the front you were being pressured to move on. We gave up after 3 hours and went to the Chelsea Physic Garden along the road which was a much welcome oasis of calm. The organisers of the show should be ashamed of themselves. Visitor numbers need limiting and I feel so sorry for anyone for whom this was a first time long awaited visit #RHSChelsea #RHSChelseaFlowerShow @GWandShows @GWandShows @The_RHS
