Remember the days when people in public office would resign over any mildly dishonourable behaviour as the right thing? #DominicCummings

I do not understand ice dispensers in hotels. I've never needed ice whilst staying at one, yet every hotel tells you where the ice machine is. Then I see people filling those little buckets. What are you all doing with the ice? Am I missing something?

@LouiseWeebe This is very nice but “rock and roll” would be better.

@NicolaSims1966 @Judith652 @VeritasEver It is horrendous & I am sorry you are going through it . The tragedy is that the assisted dying bill wouldn’t help this situation which occurs daily in hospitals up & down UK because patient has to be able to administer the drugs themselves which most people end of life can’t do.

@Fibutton @ToniSmith_UK I don’t understand it. She has vast wealth, easy access to both professional stylists & fashionistas, she is not overweight or ugly & is a narcissist obsessed w image. By all accounts she should look fabulous all the time. It makes no sense why #MeghanMarkle looks such a state.

@_TheGMan @LouiseMensch @adamboultonTABB No single woman I know in 2026 would call themselves a spinster. It’s out dated and offensive because it’s origin is a older single woman is only fit for spinning wool. If you think it’s fine, you mark yourself a dinosaur.

@_TheGMan @LouiseMensch @adamboultonTABB Spinster and Old Maid are both misogynistic and have roots in a male need to denigrate women who appear to not need a man. It’s the same reason why in the dark ages so many single women were accused of being witches.

@JenCarsonTaylor @Ben1Jam @Wimbledon It’s a modern revolting sickness. It’s even worse at galleries, museums & major historical sites. It’s very depressing for people who are actually interested in the history, art or artefacts because it takes an age to get near anything because of the posturing idiots.

@Ben1Jam @Wimbledon It’s particularly bad this year. They queue to get their pics then assume their practiced poses, then push off to their drinks. Just awful.

@sf_lang Americans pronouncing the L in CALM drives me insane. It’s like nails on a blackboard. It sound so revolting almost like they are struggling to swallow the word. Meghan Markle is a major offender.

When did people start pronouncing the T in 'often' and the L in 'almond'? How did 'advertisement' become 'advertISEment'? And when did 'forehead' become FOREhead? Who first mispronounces these things, and why does it spread?

@aislingphelan24 @Ryanair Why didn't she just wait there, I am pretty sure the crew would have located someone very quickly! There are only a few members of staff allocated to special assistance, maybe they were assisting others??

Brilliant piece of writing on #Chess by Julian Barnes. I randomly came across this in my feed because someone I follow commented on it. This is when the internet devilment has its uses!
Tony Wayland@Fullyfallible

@Leon_C_C @jackaldane @mymartinamis @wself The devil in my ear tells me Jack's ideal guest for that should be Julian Barnes, who famously fell out with Amis and is after all the author of this 1994 study of indoor, tabletop barbarity: granta.com/trap-dominate-…
