Novalis life is one of the saddest stories I've read about.
In 1797, his 15 year old fiancee Sophia passed away. In the same year, his little brother Erasmus died due to an illness. Then, the 13 y/o Bernhard drowned, a year prior to Novalis death. Reaching 28, he died in 1801.

Heterodoxy was a Persian thing. The Anatolian Turks were pretty much heterodox too, but this disappeared already in the early 14th Century.
