Re: Donut
When there's a product on the market that we can test that doesn't live up to the marketing specs.
The third party testing is exactly what I thought it would be, which is a dog and pony show.

@LimitingThe At what point is it declared a hoax?
English

@DonaldMichael @Teslaconomics Excellent point! Elon’s new compensation plan does dis-incentivize a high subscription price.
English

Throwing out the fact that most people have never taken a Marketing class and have never heard the term Price Skimming, please explain how Elon is supposed to reach 10 million FSD subscribers, as required in his new compensation package?
FSD Subscription prices are likely to do the following:
$49/mo - within the next 6 - 12 months
$19/mo - between 12 - 24 months
$9/mo - between 24 - 36 months

I want to get honest opinions on this bc I genuinely can’t tell if this is a smart long-term move or if I’m overthinking it.
Would it be smart or dumb to buy around ~20 Teslas right now, park them, and buy Full Self-Driving outright for $8,000 per car before it ends on February 14, 2026, knowing that after that date FSD becomes subscription-only?
My thinking is this.
Once Tesla opens the Robotaxi network to owners like me, FSD subscriptions are guaranteed to get more expensive, bc the software will transform your Tesla into an $ income generating asset. That means no monthly software cost would be eating into my Robotaxi revenue, and most of the cash flow would go straight to profit.
At $99/month, you hit breakeven around 6-7 years, but Teslas can last 12-15+ years, and Robotaxis could generate income far beyond that, say ~$30K per yr. If you do the math and discount the future cash flows to the present, it’s really NOT crazy to think FSD could be worth six figures per car.
So like these days as I contemplate this, I’m constantly asking myself… am I being smart by locking in a disappearing pricing model early and preparing ahead of owner-based Robotaxi launch, OR am I being dumb by tying up capital too early on something that isn’t fully live yet?
Let me know bc it’s a discussion I’m going to be having with my significant other soon, since we’d be operating this together.

@allar_adam @JoeTegtmeyer @cybertruck I use the chill or if necessary sloth speed profiles (accessed via the right scroll wheel) to force FSD to slow down without disengaging.
English

@JoeTegtmeyer @cybertruck I’m having an awful time in Toronto w/ speeding …. what do you have set for the … Speed Limit and Offset?
English

My @Cybertruck got FSD 14.1.7 today and I promptly drove about 160 miles with it to see how it does. I jumped up from 13.2.9 so this is the first update my Cybertruck has had with FSD in a long time!
First off, what a great build and much better in almost every way than the old 13,2,9 and noticeably better than my Model 3 with 14.1.4! Smoothness has returned to the experience, the added features like the self drive button working in my garage was really nice, having the Cybertruck FSD operate in the same as my Model 3 was also very nice & overall, seemed to be highly confident. Well done @Tesla_AI team!
There was one backroad intersection where large semi trucks were turning onto the road I was stopped on and FSD 14.1.7 detected this happening and made space for the semi's ... this was perfect and had never happened before at this intersection! This was impressive!
At a railroad crossing (without a train coming and no lights), FSD 14.1.7 slowed and appeared to watch for any signs of activity before proceeding. It's hard to describe, but it was a different and very appropriate action that I have not experienced in earlier versions and I see this railroad crossing often. Well done!
A few areas that still need attention and/or cropped up I'd like to mention.
Speeding in residential areas and schools zones is still present and I disengaged on purpose to hopefully allow the team to capture this data and fix this issue.
For some reason, I had by far the most dry windshield wiper activations today ... I don't know is this is related to FSD 14.1.7 or not, but I have never experienced so many in any drive before today.
The Cybertruck detected a FedEx Van pulling over and began to act as if it was am ambulance or other emergency vehicle, and started to pull to the shoulder and slow down while putting on the blinker. This lasted for about 2 seconds before it realized it was not an emergency vehicle and returned to normal driving.
Nearly all highway lane changes were perfect, but there were a few abandoned lane changes after the maneuver began during my drive. This was not nearly as severe as I've seen with 14.1.4 and the swerving actions were much more muted, but still present.

This one is painful, but you agreed to be my therapy, didn't you? 😆
This body did a lot, including giving birth to five wonderful kids in less than twelve years and growing to nearly 60 years old. In the last year I lost 128 lbs and started to make good progress with my too large, too sturdy German legs.
And now, I can for the first time wear over-the-knee boots. Might sound insignificant, but means the world to me. I waited for all my TSLA investments to be done before spending the extra money to buy the best out there, a young French brand, called @Nomasei1 . @TeslaBoomerPapa had to measure my legs last weekend, while I was emailing with the founder and deciding whether I could do this. I spare you the crazy moments.
Now crying tears of joy, I know it's silly, but hey, I have come a long way. Please don't comment anything nasty, this one is so important to me.

Lutnick says he's relying on Bessent to get a deal done with China, but on Sunday Bessent said he didn't know whether or how often Trump has been calling Chinese President Xi, and Trump said he's calling, but Xi said he's not getting through.
Is anyone working on this?

@keithdunn Blissfully unaware that the conch had been blown, River awaits news of the runners still on the course.

@itskyleconner Butts in seats. I have two 2025 HW4 MYs and FSD is amazing on them. Had a service loaner 2022 HW3 MY and FSD was dramatically worse.
English

What do you think it takes for consumers / industry experts to understand high functioning ADAS is here and it’s amazing?
Most auto review folks I talk to don’t seem to care much about ADAS - many are still craving manual buttons everywhere - but I just drove to Austin and back (2,000mi) and basically didn’t have to do anything
Maybe living with something like FSD day to day is the key to the “aha!” moment where you unlock the choice to drive or not to drive. And that’s a really nice choice to have in my view
English

@spotted_model It's always strange to see people you know on stage.
English

@spotted_model I have leased two inventory MYs since the election despite my political differences with Elon. I want my family in the safest and best American made vehicles (CLEARLY Teslas), and won't try to punish 100,000 plus employees for the actions of one.

@elonmusk A million isn't what it used to be. This just means they have saved a little bit of their paycheck for retirement each month for a long time and are old now.

Y’all aren’t gonna wanna miss this one, @Tesla friends. We covered a LOT of ground: Cybercab, new Y, next-gen Roadster, status of S and X, and more. 😎

@JustinWolfers A retired career social security administration senior manager on YouTube explained that these records ARE NOT being paid, but by law cannot be deleted since there is not a death certificate (many Americans who die (or go MIA) overseas in wars or while just living abroad).
English

In fact we know that there are 53.7m folks aged 65+ actually receiving social security. This table says there are nearly 100m social security numbers of at least that age.
It follows that whatever this is, it's not a tabulation of folks actually receiving benefits.

Elon Musk@elonmusk
According to the Social Security database, these are the numbers of people in each age bucket with the death field set to FALSE! Maybe Twilight is real and there are a lot of vampires collecting Social Security 🤣🤣

@rAndOmHaMlifE @JoeTegtmeyer That definitely DOES have a steering wheel visible in the top-down close-up shot.

@alialagheband @wholemars Yes. Surprised to hear so many Tesla fans who seemed to have missed that on the earnings call. This is not new news.
English

@wholemars Wasn’t this announced on the earnings call already?

Very interesting if true! I had expected Model Y in 2025, Cybercab in 2026

@SaltyTesla Grok sez:
Each bird follows simple rules:
Avoid collisions with nearby birds.
Match speed with neighbors.
Move towards the center of the flock.
These rules are followed by each bird based on its immediate neighbors, typically within a certain radius or visual field.
