Can we really stop people from throwing things into rivers? I mean, visarjan is deeply rooted in Hindu society. What is the realistic way to stop this? De-religionizing the society doesn’t seem to be an option in India.
Tarun Gautam@TARUNspeakss

Volunteer is asking the Hindu-lady to not throw religious stuff in Ganga which surprisingly looks way clean The lady refused to hear him and still threw stuff in the river. As I said, Hindu culture is the biggest reason behind Environment pollution in India

I have deep empathy for the pain of exodus, but calling it “wisdom” is dangerous, it normalizes the tragedy itself. If everyone chose that path, history would have no resistance. Btw my wisdom comes from being less than 1% in Kashmir.

For thousands of years, caste Hindus defended Untouchability in the name of their tradition. Almost a century ago, the British govt stepped up to open schools, roads and public tanks for everyone, arguing that the state didn't care if Hindu temples would admit high-borns, but

Shadi is actually pro-assimilationist, he just decided to write a column pretending to be anti-assimilationist, because...well, I don't know why.
Shadi Hamid@shadihamid

Like most American Muslims, I'm born and raised here in the United States. I love America. I wrote an entire book on the topic (amzn.to/4cvvtFI). American Muslims score high on patriotism. The problem is those people — often Republicans — who want us to disavow our distinctive religious and cultural traditions. That's un-American.

Afrikaner living in Dallas: “Who’s more likely to assimilate, South African Afrikaner or a Hindu Indian?” I think the answer is pretty obvious here…

Well, Bangladesh wouldn't qualify for any military alliance as it stands now, similar to how it doesn't qualify for ASEAN membership. There, I said the loud part. And no, China wouldn't help with Bangladesh's security interests in any way shape or form. This was proven back in 2012. Use what is available. Majority of Indian elite view neighboring countries (including Bangladesh) as was, and intend to be a part of India. This is map is in their parliament 👇 And no, Bangladesh is not prepared. End goal should be to shatter their will, even if it means working with unfavorable and unpredictable partners.

Yes Pakistan carries strategic value for US and China, for their own geopolitical realities and goals. I know you want to mis interpret what I am saying as some sort of being anti Pakistan, which actually I am not, I pretty much want a good working relationship with Pakistan and had mentioned it in my original post. My point is our Geo political realities are not in putting our hope in Pakistan, rather on building our own capabilities and strengthening ties with China.

@OJ_Smoke_ I think western influence is definitely a threat, but bro is cooking up suugo science. I’ve never seen a Muslim marry a non Muslim irl. The marriage wouldn’t even be valid unless it’s a man marrying ahlul kitaab. Muslims are much harder to assimilate than other religions

This is a black pill, but it’s 100% true We need to think long and hard about the long-term consequences of residing in Non-Muslim lands. And for the Muslims who say, “We’re here in the West to do Dawah!” The reality is, you won’t change America, America will change you.
Noah Smith 🐇🇺🇸🇺🇦🇹🇼@Noahpinion

About 20% of American-born Muslims marry non-Muslims. A century ago, for Catholics, the number was ~10%, and for Jews ~3%. So Muslims are assimilating MUCH faster than historical religious minorities.

One thing I'd add here: It is incumbent on us in the second generation+ to build a firewall between the diaspora and the old country when it comes to regressive political and cultural tendencies. India is a country whose politics is marked by ethnic and religious feuds that go back centuries, if not longer. Allowing these disputes to seep into our politics (and they have already) will spell our doom.

17) to your detractors u r one; don't pretend like you can say "well those other indians..." it's also cringe, cowardly and not virtuous overall. if you look marginally brown and have a 'weird name' it's all the same. 'those ppl' don't care if you don't wear a turban or eat meat

A Kashmiri Pandit has his own country, his community has trust in the state of India, while Burhan Wani has his land under foreign occupation that suppresses and oppresses his community and doesn't have trust in the state of India nor does he consider India a legitimate country.
Tushar ॐ♫₹@Tushar_KN

Burhan Wani, son of a high school teacher, became a terrorist after an altercation with security forces in Kashmir Samay Raina, along with his parents, was forced to flee his homeland in Kashmir, but he went on to become a stand-up comedian There is no excuse for terrorism, only motives
