Like I said, we have no disagreements about the content quality of Panini baseball. They do a great job. Even on Prospect Edition and Boys of Summer. USA Prizm was a big hit this year. I do stand by my statement that the products would be very watered down or much more money if they had the licenses. Accountants, rights fees, and all. I also stand by my position that they’ve been fleecing their NBA and NFL buyers for six years now with auto checklists worse than most Leaf products and dead retail products. Almost everyone is better off buying a case of retail blasters or megas than the equivalent spend of hobby boxes of the same sport. Except Prizm. Just leave it on the shelf. The people working on the products care more than the accountants do, that’s for sure. And I also believe that to be true for Topps.

If both companies had the licenses, Donruss would beat the daylights out of Topps flagship. Topps is lazy and knows their stuff will sell no matter what. You actually get new and unique stuff in Donruss. “It’s unlicensed” shut up, we all know this. It’s a fun rip if you’re not a greedy fool.

I stand somewhat corrected, they did have PA license and not MLB license. You’re right. But they also had to try because they didn’t have the logos. I’m not disagreeing that Donruss/Select/Prizm/NT baseball give bang for the buck, but if they were lazy like they are for other sports, it wouldn’t sell. Prizm NFL sold below cost ever year when Topps had the NFL license.

@vickers9 You clearly never opened panini baseball when they had the MLBPA license. I’ve pulled better everythings out of panini products than Topps. It’s not the same team building every sport, I know, I worked on baseball products.

@MishaWines97 That wasn’t Panini. It was Playoff/Donruss. Different company. Panini didn’t exist as a card company until 2009 when they got the NBA license. All they did was just buy the IP.

The harsh reality of collecting baseball cards is that any time you have to ask, “this guy has been doing x, y, and z well for 3 straight years when will his cards go up?!” the answer is that they probably won’t. If he was going to be a big hobby name he already would have been.

@ianmSC His greater point is people are unwilling to sacrifice, and would rather complain. He’s not wrong if the person invests the money. That’s how a lot of people saved for a down payment in the 70’s through 90’s. $100 a week in the S&P since 6/1/2020 is worth about $50k now.
