The average solo miner does not have enough hash power to contribute a meaningful amount of work to Parasite Pool. The whales come in with a rental and make sure they get most of the payout from the block. For people with low hashrate the chance of 3.125 BTC is much more attractive than a sliver of the 2.125 reward for their work, or 1 BTC when they personally hit a block on Parasite.
