I have never been more bullish on crypto. Because the rules-based order is collapsing and the code-based order is rising. So the short term price doesn’t matter. As international law breaks down, we will need not just onchain currencies, but onchain companies. As the post-war order breaks down, we’ll similarly need the post-internet order. States will fail, and the network will take their place. We need internet capitalism, we need internet democracy, and we need internet privacy. So we need cryptocurrency.

I’m telling you guys the next 3 months are about to get wild All the smart people will either try to go to one of the few crypto projects with sustainable revenue & growth or will leave crypto completely We saw 3 of the smartest ppl outright leave crypto in the last 48 hours

“Enforceable international law may become synonymous with decentralized smart contracts, at least in the context of international trade. And beyond trade, crypto protocols provide transnational protection for civil liberties like freedom of speech and privacy. This is not yet the entirety of what the rules-based order purports to protect, but the ability to guarantee free speech and free markets to anyone with an internet connection is a major step forward.” From 2021: archive.is/0wlC2

@balajis Agreed -- Public chains are the world's first international property rights systems Imperfect perhaps but already much better than the property rights that billions of people (don't) have today

✅"Rules-based order collapsing" (same for post-war order breakdown): barreling towards consensus since Carney said the quiet part out loud ✅ "Code-based order rising": Software been eating the world for 30 yrs, AI accelerates (hardware is short term headwind) ✅ "international law breaks down": Arguably since Iraq was it clear no intl body would actually overrule US (esp not the UN) ⭕️ "post-internet order": tbd on when this gains momentum, imo. mainstream has tolerable aversion to tech giants, but won't stop being the product. crypto has tried, w/ limited success, onchain governance; has major branding problem. ⭕️ "States will fail": already happened (somalia, south sudan, syria); power vacuum quickly filled and messaging is stifled ⭕️ "Network will take place": society may try varying forms of regionalism/community/neighborhood based orders before jumping to Network. come to think of it, latter three appears highly contingent on post-internet order truly emerging.

@balajis But here’s my view - Yes onchain/tokenization will be big But it wont benefit any of the crypto tokens Tradfi will just tokenize all their existing assets and they have distribution that crypto cannot match With tokenized gold, i cant clearly see the case for BTC 🙈

@balajis As the rules-based order frays, onchain contracts could become the new backbone of trade and civil liberties—what practical paths do you see to harmonize onchain enforcement with traditional law?

@balajis Love this— if enforcement shifts to code, the real test is which interoperable onchain governance stack actually scales cross-border trade and civil liberties—onchain arbitration, smart contract courts, or something we haven’t imagined yet?

@balajis Corrupt leadership, propaganda-driven media & broken governance models don’t survive forever. They slowly hollow themselves out. What replaces them will be shaped by networks, technology & communities that prioritize reality over ideology.

@balajis Interesting thoughts on how smart contracts could reshape international law and crypto's role in protecting civil liberties. Definitely a lot to unpack as these technologies mature and integrate.

@balajis This framing aged well. The real breakthrough isn’t “crypto as money” — it’s crypto as enforceable coordination. Trade first, then rights, then institutions.

@balajis We'll eventually need to live on a different "economic plane" from the predatory totalitarian states. Crypto enables a parallel economy that is safe from their intervention. People exchanging goods and services without them getting in the middle. I want it so badly.
