@mpopv I have had this thought. The Alameda Seaplane ferry only runs about once an hour most of the day. That's insane! They should turn that whole area into 20-story apartment buildings and have a ferry that departs every 10 minutes.

@binarybits @mpopv This is low-hanging fruit, but not so low-hanging as just replacing the dumpy single-family houses (you can keep the beautiful Victorian ones) and small duplexes that make up the overwhelming majority of residentially zoned land.
English

@binarybits @mpopv Ferry every 10 minutes is running up against the hard limit of how long it takes to dock, unload, reload, and leave
English

@binarybits @mpopv Treasure Island is also surreal. 10 min from downtown, incredible bay views, and nearly empty. The geologic and cleanup explanations for the 40 year delay never make sense to me.

@binarybits @mpopv Worth noting it’s a superfund site with continuing issues, and that has been part of why it’s so slow to develop.
Although I would imagine these issues could be remediated 5x faster under a more reasonable regime

@binarybits @mpopv 20 stories is nothing. Hong Kong laughs at that and the Bay is far more important than HK
English

@binarybits @mpopv There's already ferry service that passes right by it from Harbor Bay! Just need to add a couple boats.

@binarybits @mpopv The island would definitely need another tunnel and maybe bridge to deal with that
