My memories of book week were always dressing up as an obscure and ultimately uncool character while everyone else was in superhero and princess costumes; not sure what the point of this social experiment that tortures both kids and parents is tbh

@binarythis Same! Except one day Dad made me a papier mache Humpty Dumpty head with a beer box wall that went over my shoulders. It must've taken him weeks! I was so embarrassed at the time, but now I'm in awe! (As a parent, I hate book week parades!)

@binarythis Ugh, book week or even book day with triplets who needed consistency and are very concrete about school clothes versus night clothes versus Halloween

@binarythis Kid has had this experience: was told by teacher costume didn't really work unless people knew who/what it was. As a librarian I said the point was to encourage reading, so it's good if they are introducing new books to others. Kid didn't buy it, but continues to forge own path.

@binarythis I don’t recall having any book weeks when I was growing up in the 80s. We wouldn’t have been able to afford costumes anyway.
