Help survivors and advocates pass #SICAA, a bipartisan federal bill to prevent child abuse in youth residential programs ✊🏼

So excited to share that one of my California bills #SB373 with @ShannonGroveCA passed the CA Assembly Education Committee unanimously today!! This bill strengthens protections for vulnerable kids who are sent to out-of-state schools by their school district, including Provo Canyon! I’m so proud to continue to use my experience to make change for others 💖 #SB373

Just watched WE WERE DANGEROUS and I’m still thinking about it 🥹 A powerful, beautifully told story of young women resisting control inside residential treatment. Out now on digital and VOD — can’t recommend it enough @weweredangerous youtube.com/watch?v=9C1eFs…

I didn’t know it then… but my voice would help pass a federal law to shine light on youth centers and protect children from abuse🥹💔 #SICAA #LegislationIsHot #SlivingForACause

Thrilled to celebrate the passage of our Maryland bill, #SB400 / #HB497! This marks a major step forward in protecting vulnerable youth and bringing accountability to the youth transport industry. I’m incredibly proud of Maryland for leading the way on this critical issue. Huge thanks to our bill sponsors @DelegateStewart & @SenatorDawnGile for your unwavering support. Special recognition to Sen. Pam Beidle and @LukeClippinger for your leadership. This victory wouldn’t have been possible without all of you! The bill is on its way to @GovWesMoore desk!!!!

This is our moment: Tomorrow the Senate could pass my bill The Stop Institutional Child Abuse Act with @SenJeffMerkley @JohnCornyn @TTuberville to bring badly-needed oversight to protect kids in residential treatment programs. No one should go through what I went through and I am praying it passes as it has so much bipartisan support 🙏

It was horrific, it was heartbreaking, it was wrong and it should never have happened. My speech in the House of Representatives at the National Apology to all New Zealanders who were abused in the care of state and faith-based institutions. youtu.be/s2gOjzDf-v8?si…
