@k_thos Hey, this looks great. Unfortunately I’ll be on my way to SF for my teaching gig. Is there another way to fine out about events like this that does not require being active on this particular website, which I’m very much looking to avoid?

An international housing exposition would be a great way to get buildings like this in Los Angeles

@CohenSite @Steven_J_Lucia Also, in the above scenario, it was all coordinated from the start and Steven is talking about getting the trades to understand how to efficiently implement the design

@CohenSite @Steven_J_Lucia Architects are collaborative by nature. We’d love to hear useful input earlier in the process, but unless you are trying to do something radically new (3D printing [don’t]) there are not a lot of unknown unknowns for us to be blindsided by

In the old days, how often were the architect, structural engineer, MEP engineers, and estimators in the same room together? Were plans hashed out cross-discipline before computers, or was it always a siloed hand-off process?

@CohenSite You invented “Design/Build” but really the GC & structural don’t know how to contribute much at the beginning of the design process. You’d be better off with a team of architects that each have their own specializations, which is why things are done the way they are

In tech, there's a concept called a hackathon, where a small group of engineers get together for 72 hours and build a proof-of-concept prototype I want to do a hackathon, but for an apartment building (team: architect, structural engineer, general contractor)

@alanthefisher @holz_bau It’s not the existence of shared spaces he’s upset about, it’s how terrible they are. As emergency housing I could see this, but it gotta say, I think we owe even the most desperate just a bit more dignity. Btw, there does not appear to be a janitorial closet in this plan

@holz_bau American's baffled by the idea of sharing spaces. This is obviously not meant to be long term housing for people, just temporary

@joshtpm Isn't this likely connected to TFGs deregulation of food safety? The same deregulation responsible for the listeria outbreak?

AVL improvements have a $50 million shortfall, meanwhile Metro wants to spend >$200 million widening highway 14 in the same region. And still no commitment to electrification despite frequent service and future HSR on the same corridor. Where's the leadership?

October 2024 update on Metrolink Antelope Valley improvements. ~$67m costs cut on 3 projects, but $64m increase on 4th project (utilities, UP ROW). Did not win grants. Will go with 2/4 projects, with $50m gap. They say operational goals can still be met. cityoflancasterca.org/home/showpubli…
