It certainly feels like a denial grab bag when after over four hours of phone calls and multiple days of delaying my cancer patient's treatment, the insurance company admits that the original prior auth should not have been denied. youtu.be/eSiuTE3HYsY

@CaseyJeffreysMD @UHC I’m sorry this is happening to your #MS patient. @UHC is not interested in helping patients. Last week I called 3 times for an urgent patient medication that needed reviewed to give the reviewer info. They refused to allow me, the physician, to talk to anyone about my patient.

So frustrating, @UHC denied a medication my patient has been taking for 15 years. Patient takes Adderall for MS-related fatigue, a disabling symptom with no FDA-approved treatments, and this medicine helps her function. Make it make sense! #FixPriorAuth

@meganranney I’ve had so many I can write a book. And believe you me, there’s not many good stories. 😡 I’m basically chair & bedridden because of horrific medical mistakes. I feel blessed when I can get out. Many of us have lost faith in the system since ‘covid’. 💰

@meganranney As a patient I have had to fight them for over a decade. PA's for Testosterone Modafinil Jardiance CGM sensors CPAP machine and even replacement masks! Just to name a few. For years my dr charged $15 to deal with PA's because they constantly got rejected and had to resubmit. 1/

@meganranney Yearly PAs for pump supplies and CGM. Always eventually approved after the standard paperwork and call delays. Type 1 diabetes does not go away, so the only possible explanation is that they want to reduce their annual costs by whatever percent of the year they can delay through.

@meganranney I was denied for a third time a generic inhaler because I didn’t first try taking the generic inhaler my doctor tried to get me. Endless loop of waste and time. Thankfully @costplusdrugs and @mcuban is there to provide my meds with zero issues at low cost. #fixpriorauth.

@meganranney As a physician, I have so many but I also personally had surgery cancelled not once but twice b/c PA was denied. 1st time only affected me. 2nd, had to resched 2 fully booked wks of clinic. Next opening w/me was 4-6 wks out. No ins. reply until I rage tweeted and didn’t even help

@meganranney An issue with my PBM's processing of a prior authorization for a drug I had been taking for YEARS for MS resulted in a medication interruption and a relapse. I now have permanent vision loss in one eye thanks to administrivia.

@meganranney I had an insurance company deny a CT for a 40-ish yo woman with abd pain, weight loss & blood in her stools. They had protocols for each specific symptom but not for a patient with all three symptoms. She ended up having metastatic colon CA.
