@KenToerner @NutritionMadeS3 Honest researchers would compare lifestyle interventions + vegan diet with same lifestyle interventions and omnivorous rich in vegetables. Is it avoiding animal products or increasing vegetables that is protective? This research doe not prove a vegan diet is best.

@NutritionMadeS3 Exciting news! Lifestyle interventions like a vegan diet and exercise may have a profound impact on Alzheimer's. Understanding our environment's role in health is key.

Dropping tomorrow: Dr. Dean Ornish´s new clinical trial looks at the effect of lifestyle on Alzheimer's disease. Can his program (vegan diet + exercise + stress management etc) reverse Alzheimer´s? A look at the data and implications

@sguyenet The intervention would be even more powerful if magnesium was included. The Sodium potassium pump which uses up 20% of resting energy is magnesium dependent. Salts with both potassium and magnesium have been shown to be amazingly effective

Importantly, the interventions primarily increased potassium intake and only modestly reduced sodium intake.

@sguyenet Cheap and easy yes, but no substitute for getting your potassium naturally - i.e. optimal vegetable and fruit intake.

@NutritionMadeS3 Sudden cardiac arrest = magnesium deficiency. Body body language of Mg deficiency? Constipation, cramping, palpitations, afib, anxiety, depression, insomnia, etc [Nutrients 2015; 7(9): 8199–8226]

Over a third of sudden cardiac deaths happen in people with no previously diagnosed heart disease the 1st sign... is also the last one beware the fairy tale to "JUST listen to your body" DO listen to your body but your body speaks many languages ahajournals.org/doi/10.1161/ci…

@ElieJarrougeMD Raised BP is magnesium deficiency. Mg is 'natures calcium channel blocker.' Prevents increased BP from excessive dietary calcium intake. The sodium-potassium pump also depends on Mg to function. Low Mg = higher intracellular Ca and low intracellular potassium = high BP.

Doctors often blame high blood pressure on salt intake. If that were true, how come I’ve never seen any patient fix it by restricting 🧂? Also, why have I seen many patients cure it by restricting carbohydrates while also increasing their 🧂 intake? 🧂 is NOT the root cause.

@fperrywilson Pity so many commentators on nutritional research are ill-educated in the fundamentals of nutrition. RCTs can test standalone interventions but nutrients are not drugs, but interactive and interdependent on 40 or so other nutrients. RCTs cannot control for so many variables.

Sure - maybe all these trials are wrong / bad / enrolled the wrong people (lots of folks espouse this view). But maybe Vitamin D LEVEL is just a proxy for other healthful behaviors - a lifestyle biomarker, if you will.

Another Vitamin D trial bites the dust... except... maybe it doesn't? Maybe the negative Vitamin D supplement trials are because the drug hurts some people and helps others? Brief thread on the new WHI study.

One of the most liberating qualities you can practice is not to take anything personally. Shrug it off. Let it go. Life is too short to hold grudges. Remember to be kind to others and more importantly to yourself.

@ifixhearts ....the healthcare system is broken, and so badly now that its hard to know where to start to fix it. All we can do is encourage individual responsibility to pursue a healthy lifestyle - nutritious food, regular exercise.

The system has evolved to a point that doctors are overwhelmed. They don't have the time that they should to spend with the patients because of the insurance regulations. The pharmaceutical industry has too much influence. The food industry has too much influence.

Talking to a doctor friend today: he said that most of his patients having joint prosthesis etc. also have metabolic syndrome. But when he talks to them about diet and weight loss, they resent it and refuse responsibility. Out of their control, they say.

Beyond Meat & PepsiCo are planning to launch a plant-based jerky. [Can´t wait!] Pepsi’s CEO said it “helps Pepsi work toward its sustainability & health goals..." Say what? Yes, you pop open a Pepsi & snack on "sustainable, healthy" fake vegan jerky. I get it...
