I’ve been thinking about where I land on the toxic anonymous websites run by “Kirk” (whose IP address is now know) in economics, sociology, & political science. These sites are replete with defamatory, mendacious, racist, & misogynist speech. Almost all posts are anonymous. #EJMR

@florianederer Maybe making advertisers aware - as you are trying to do clearly also in the presentation - can at least be a first step. Loosing ad revenue might take away incentives to have such an unmoderated forum. Of course more needs to be done to address the underlying issues though.

In the past the clear message of my academic work (e.g., killer acquisitions, common ownership) has been conflated with particular policy recommendations on these issues. For the record, I have not made any policy recommendations regarding my work on anonymity online.
