@charlieINTEL custom HRTF presets aren't a new thing, you could pay to get one made of your ears since forever, but the default one is usually good enough for every ear or head shape and is also free, you can just enable windows sonic for headphones or whatever the fuck dolby is charging for

@zack_overflow Doom Eternal without ray tracing runs faster on my proton system than on Windows on the same hardware. There is a noticeable gap between performance with ray tracing for some reason, potentially an api thing. It's remarkable

Proton blows my mind, it’s incredible software
It works at runtime by converting Windows graphics/system API calls to Linux equivalent
It feels hacky and like there should be some perf cost
Yet it works so well, and some games even run faster on Proton

@JoeLongBalls mapping culture is a lot more ingrained into those games, some wads even have credits in the intermission but most have it in the idgames txt file
you don't see that much nowadays, with huge teams working on games instead of a few people and games becoming less moddable

something this makes me think about is how in old doom-quake era shooters level designers sort of had their known status and strengths, people will say "this is a mcgee level, this is a romero level" kind of stuff. Totally lost as games became bigger
