It appears it is my annual reminder to myself, and to you all, that you do not need to diet, starve yourself, deny yourself, punish yourself, talk down to yourself, change yourself, inject yourself, take weight loss pills or ANYTHING ELSE to get your bikini body. Here’s a pic of me from this weekend. I’m 33 years old. I have had two children. I’m more stretch marks than skin nowadays! I’ve been a size 8, running miles every morning. I’ve been a size 24, having chest pains and palpitations walking up a flight of stairs. I know what it’s like to be frightened of posting a pic like this one - even though I now do it almost every year as a reminder. I know the comments coming etc. I have a bazillion body image issues from abuse, from the way I have been treated by family, by exes, by trolls online - just because I’m a psychologist and a feminist does not mean I am not harmed by the same structures, norms, abuses, marketing and narratives that harm us all. None of us get out of this mess unscathed. Not only that, but we’ve all got stretch marks, saggy skin, spots, cellulite, parts of our body we hate, parts of our body we are scared to get out. Industries rely on our insecurity - insecurity makes 🤑🤑 The day we stop hating ourselves is the day they stop profiting from us. But, anyway, woman. Girl. Sister. You have worked your damn ass off for months. You’ve done long hours. You’ve taken care of your family. The sun is out. You’re going on holiday. You’re having a BBQ. You’re in your garden. WEAR THE FUCKING BIKINI. Pour a big fat glass of something nice. Appreciate the sunshine and the self-care. Feel the warmth on your skin. You already have a bikini body. Go and get some vitamin D. Fuck everyone else. And if in any doubt - hold yourself with the confidence of the middle aged white bald dude wandering around with a Stella and his top off through the centre of your fucking high street with not a care in the world 😂😭
