Boiler is being replaced (the housing association can't afford to put in heat pumps to replace broken boilers). The house is freezing. I'm sitting under many layers doing trigonometry.

My take on thumbprint cookies, inspired by @kimjoyskitchen I was worried they were under baked (my oven is a bit temperamental), but after quality control I can confirm that they are perfectly done!

@higgledygarden I put hand warmers in my wellies earlier because my feet were freezing whilst I was trying to assemble a compost tumbler thing.

@VenetiaJane Pansies for thought. Penser. I can see some viola leaves in the garden, but no flowers yet.

Violas are the final birth flower for the month of February. This genus includes the dainty violets that grow wild in our hedgerows, and the pretty little viola and pansy “faces” that brighten up our garden planters in late-winter. They symbolise friendship, love and remembrance.

@higgledygarden I'm coming round to the idea of just waiting until spring, having lost so many seedlings and trays of seeds to storms over the last 2 winters. I'd probably feel differently if I had a proper greenhouse, though.

Dear Twonks, I am writing a piece on the pros and cons of direct sowing in spring compared to sowing in pots in the greenhouse. Which method do you prefer and why? Do you have any tips? :) Thx in advance.

@DanielKebedeNEU As a TA of 14 years, that makes me so angry. What value does he add to any of the schools in that group? What does he do for the education of young people? I work 32 hours a week for £17200 and I know that what I do makes a difference to students.

When one CEO earns the equivalent to 25 teaching assistants, it's no wonder the defence of academy "freedoms" becomes a chief concern...
