@LifeAfloat Thank you, Nick, for continued inspiration. You are what a human should be for his fellow man. All the Best in 2026 from the Coast of California: wet, wild and wonderful as the year turns over.

@TweetMangione @LogothetisTheo @allenanalysis A mix…look up California Genocide on Wikipedia. Amazing how ruthless a whole community can become: shocked, angry, vindictive, ruthless and cruel.

@Ballykae @LogothetisTheo @allenanalysis Which government of California? The Spanish one, the Mexican one or the American one?

🚨 JD Vance is now claiming that when settlers arrived in the New World, they “found widespread child sacrifice” and that “Christian civilization ended the practice.”
Archaeologists and historians, including experts in North American Indigenous history, say this is a complete fabrication. There is zero evidence of widespread child sacrifice among First Nations.
This isn’t a slip.
It’s racist revisionism dressed up as patriotism.
And it tells you exactly how far they’ll go to rewrite history to justify oppression.

@LogothetisTheo @allenanalysis True…yesterday I researched a bit about the Indigenous people of California. The government provided weapons, and put a bounty on them. By 1890, out of every 23 native people, 22 were dead. One out of twenty-three survived.

@NikitaJGarner Well Done! I’m in California, but rode an Irish Sporthorse many years ago, and thought the mix of Irish TB/Draught so sporting, safe, and spirited that I raised them while I could. It was their willingness and good cheer. Hope you have that with this one. Best of Luck!

@LifeAfloat Lovely…my Cairn Terriers originated there, but I found none when I visited in 2017. Maybe California will allow me another try soon. I’ve enjoyed the UK vicariously with you, may you continue with joy and good fortune!

@herdyshepherd1 @Waterstones A good story, very well-written. Didn’t think I would enjoy as much as the shepherd works, because I have sheep. But I have no ducks, and was wrapped up in this tale, as if in an eiderdown…

So, this happened… thank you @Waterstones for all your support
And to all the amazing booksellers who have helped this book do so well x

@scotthaas27 @herdyshepherd1 Beautiful..what breed is that? (I do sheep in California…)

@johnsmalaney @Lucy_Worsley Traveling with dogs for years (show Cairn Terriers), makes it a good idea to have a bed sheet with me to throw on any/all beds. What a good time we have had!
English

@Lucy_Worsley Travelling with dogs I have had to dry clean a set of curtains after one dog kicked a cup of tea across the room and an astronomical amount to replace a damaged duvet cover when the other got past me & jumped on the bed in an annex before I had cleaned his muddy paws.
