I was told in July 2025 that my defaulted student loans were “Paid in Full” by the Department of Education. I believed them. I took out new loans and stayed in school at Indiana Tech to finish my degree.
Now they’re saying that letter was sent in error and I’m back in default — even while I’m currently in school. The DOE gave me official paperwork I relied on, then reversed it without warning.
This is how broken the system is. People trying to better their lives through education are getting jerked around by conflicting letters, bad communication, and zero accountability.
I’ve filed disputes and reached out to my senators. If you’ve dealt with the Default Resolution Group or similar issues, speak up. This needs to change.
