The two spotted leafhopper (Jassid) is occurring at economic levels in some fields in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and Alabama. This pest has the potential to be the greatest economic problem since the boll weevil. Many questions remain, only time will tell.

Ducks and geese in fields tell part of the story for Central AL. Some want minimal rain the next 7 to 10 days to finish cotton, peanut, and soybean planting/replanting, while the potential yield for dryland corn is very high if recent weather patterns continue. #ALCrops

Looking down the row of some irrigated Central AL PHY 411. May be the best field I've seen this year. @PhytoGenCotton

393,199 acres of cotton were grown in 59 of 67 Alabama counties in 2024. This amounts to the widest distribution of cotton in any state east of texas.

Soybean field a few miles north of The Blackbelt Research Station. Riddled with Iron chlorosis very early in the season if I remember correctly.

Still feeling the pain from 2023. Trying to put 2024 behind us and survive to make it to 2025. Central Alabama soybean trial in the books. Not much learned, just an old phrase reiterated. "If it don't rain, it don't matter."

Reports of fall armyworms in pastures are still coming in across AL. Some producers do not have the equipment to spray, so not much can be done. Cooler weather next week will slow worms down, but we still have the potential for one more generation. #ALcrops @Ron_Smith23 @ACESedu

First 2024 peanut variety trial harvested today. May 7 plant date. Central Alabama drought took a toll on them. #ALCrops
