@agronomistryan1 @AGRICENLIFER @MississippiCorn @MSUExtService Yes sir. Most of our corn was planted in late March, tasseled the first week of June and will reach physiological maturity next week. We will likely see harvest begin before the end of the month. Heat unit accumulation was high this spring as well, which also helped.

Properly timing corn irrigation termination can pay big dividends. The first step is to estimate maturity by checking milk-line progress. Then evaluate moisture - where sensors show water use drops nearly 2X, so it will carry the crop a lot longer on your final cycle. 🌽

First southern rust of the year in Hinds County, MS. Thankfully, the vast majority of the corn in MS is beyond a stage where southern rust could impact yield @MSUExtService @MSUextPlantLab @MississippiCorn

Corn kernels abort or “tip back” when plants can’t produce enough energy to sustain them during a 20 day period after tassel. Corn prioritizes development in the lower ear. Some likely reasons for this are: ✔️Wet, anaerobic soil ✔️Cloudy skies ✔️High night temps 🌽#mscorn

In an Executive Order just signed today, the Trump administration is temporarily suspending duties on Moroccan phosphate imports for 8 months. Here's what the emergency declaration by the @WhiteHouse does: *Temporarily suspends certain anti-dumping and countervailing duties on phosphate fertilizer imports from Morocco *Allows duty-free importation of Moroccan phosphate fertilizer for up to eight months, or until the emergency is terminated *Directs federal agencies to implement the suspension and monitor fertilizer supply conditions during the relief period *Aims to improve near-term fertilizer availability heading into upcoming application seasons while longer-term domestic production efforts continue Read more here: agweb.com/news/policy/tr…

🎥 Dr. Erick Larson gives an update on the heat stress in corn you might be observing. It occurs when sultry weather exceeds corn’s ability to transpire and stay cool.🌽 #mscorn #mscrops #MSUext

Yellow and burnt corn leaves are showing up that are likely seldomly seen heat stress. Sultry hot days earlier this month were tough, especially on plants with roots impaired by anaerobic soils. Humidity makes it hard to cool leaves, causing issues. 🌽#mscorn

Gray Leaf Spot on corn. Appears as tan rectangular vein-limited lesions that can merge & kill entire leaves. Thrives in prolonged hot humid conditions. Can reduce yields. Control with resistant hybrids, crop rotation, proper tillage & fungicides when needed @CropNetwork #Corn

And not indicative of a plant disease which is oftentimes blamed as the culprit. These leaves tend to be in the lower canopy, but can occur in other parts of the canopy. Foliar diseases do not tend to occur on leaf edges and are generally more random than that.

As we approach dent in the MS corn crop the bulk of the lesions below the ear leaf are not diseases of concern. Southern corn leaf blight, Diplodia lesions, northern corn leaf spot are all not problematic and quite common this year. Focus on ear leaf and above @MississippiCorn

Excellent example of a suspected virus-positive plant and its distribution in the field. Yes, that’s ONE plant. Oftentimes, viruses present themselves as irregularly distributed and not a widespread issue. Plant submitted for testing/confirmation #mscrops

In my 19 years I’ve only witnessed NCLB what I would consider “bad” in two fields….one of those was today. Multiple leaves with multiple lesions. Rotation and tillage make a world of difference on plant diseases @MStateCorn @MississippiCorn

Heat stress is apparent in some fields. It occurs when sultry weather exceeds corn’s ability to transpire and stay cool. It is prompted by weakened roots from anaerobic or compacted soil, which limit their performance and cause leaves to quickly overheat and scald. 🌽 #mscorn

Thus far, as of 6/15/26, the MS corn crop has been relatively quiet from a disease stand point. Curvularia leaf spot incidence and severity definitely increasing in corn that’s R2+; however, I’m not alarmed at this point in the season @MississippiCorn
