While people like Peston or Dan Hodges will claim that they had foreseen this outcome for months, their role in the toppling of yet another Prime Minister shouldn’t be overlooked. If Starmer had been allowed to carry out his job without 24 hour barracking, I’d suggest we’d all be fine with how things were moving along. But we’re in a doom loop now. Those in the reactionary media, cannot maintain their own relevance unless they create headlines. The irony is that social media is replacing their roles and unless they drive the news, they become an irrelevance. So, when this exact same Groundhog Day takes place after they have ruined Burnham’s career, they can keep the loop in play. I don’t see a route out of this at the moment. Tory or Labour PM, we’re doomed to repeat the cycle.

European democracies are on the verge of electing leaders who answer directly to Moscow. The image of European politicians participating in Russia's flagship economic event should shock the conscience of the West. @prodnose I don't agree. The expanded World Cup has made the group stages more interesting. You will still get the big countries locking horns in the latter stages. Group games have often been stale in previous tournaments. This one has been good so far.

The 48 team World Cup is a nonsense of course. Like having a boxing tournament where kids get to fight heavyweights just because they won a couple of preliminaries.
