I wonder if I'm such an atheistic grump that the idea of 'Superman as destiny' rubs me the wrong way.

@kidomaki_real @TomMCJL To be fair there were other movies, like Star Trek Into Darkness and the Transformers films, which also indulged in this kind of disaster porn. But doing it in a superhero movie was a turning point for the genre

I'm really glad Zack Snyder & co. didn't include some ridiculous 2-Minute evacuation scene to pander to a portion of fans who get mad when actions from powerful beings have consequences on a world of regular ones. 'MAN OF STEEL' is incredible.

@BobAlGreene @TomMCJL Guess what - those scenes are in Avengers 1 & 2, difference is it was all bright colors and the Avengers were doing one-liners, while people were dying. Then they looked at replays of those scenes at the beginning of Civil War and were being all quiet and serious. GTFOH!!!

@ProfofEvil @D4hz4hn It’s straight up not the same thing at all in either case. He doesn’t kill the kaiju first of all. And he doesn’t purposefully kill Ultraman either, much less savagely murdering him with his bare hands. There’s also a lot more to it in terms of earned beats, writing and character

@offmodescarab If they wanted this to be a bigger deal dramatically, then the conflict between Superman and the Justice gang would’ve had to be a major conflict in the film, and I don’t think that’s what the film was really about

Dan Gilroy's imagination is limited so his idea of unique planets is just "oh here's the Scottish Highlands" or "here's a planet full of wheat." This isn't a problem unique to him as all of Disney's Star Wars has it but it showcases a creative bankruptcy across the board.

People still read the Lord of the Rings, Narnia, Huck Finn, etc. Quality aside, Star Wars had that level of cultural impact. If people are still watching movies 100 years from now, then they will still be watching the original 6 SW films.

It’s been over two decades since the last one came out and people are still talking about them and watching them I don’t see how that’s so far fetched.
