@AnubizzzBurner Just came into St Louis to stay the night and head west to Amarillo tomorrow morning, how is it looking as far as mesoscale analysis and hazards tonight/tomorrow? Should I find a basement somewhere and stay put?

First movie of April. I haven’t watched anything in a few weeks. Re-watching a childhood favorite I picked up in the recent Criterion sale. I’ve seen this countless times, but I feel like this was the first time I really saw it. boxd.it/dYKbGt

@wwgish You know what he was terrific in was the Sopranos. He played a sleazy, self destructive, mobbed-up police detective. So good. He’s done Shakespeare too

Fascinating
Fascinating@fasc1nate·
Action cinema as we know it owes an unlikely debt to an on-set mishap in 1960s Japanese filmmaking, during the production of Sanjuro. The moment was intended to be stark and dramatic, not revolutionary. For a climactic duel, actor Tatsuya Nakadai wore a concealed hose beneath his costume, pressurized to roughly 30 pounds, designed to release a controlled flow of fake blood after the final sword strike. Instead, a connection in the tubing failed at exactly the wrong moment. All the pressure discharged at once, sending a sudden, explosive geyser of blood into the air. More brilliant film details: bit.ly/453YnYN

@impression_ists I tend to oscillate between them, depending on what’s going on in my life. During a period of upheaval and manic energy, VanGogh’s pieces were validating, like a friend. Nowadays I prefer the stillness of Monet, especially water scenes, for the same reason.

@wwgish @cinesthesian Wow I wonder why the long delay for the BR release. Ahhh to have lived in the golden age of the DVD; makes me feel old but on the other hand lucky. 😂

@BonsaiCole @cinesthesian I watched it a few weeks ago for the first time in probably a decade, it holds up so well. I just found out it’s been released on Blu-ray in the US within the last year or two, first HD release I think. I still have the same DVD I bought at the Hampshire Mall in 2002.

@wwgish @cinesthesian God damn what a killer film. It’s a crime but I don’t think I’ve seen it end-to-end since our Amherst days.

@wwgish @RightOnQueueTV The Thing hands down. The real terror in that film isn’t instilled by the creature but by the fact that it’s hidden among characters we’ve come to know and care about. And I can’t even with the practical effects. It’s like the sister film to Invasion of the Body Snatchers

I am following with deep concern what is happening in the Middle East and in Iran during this tumultuous time. Stability and peace are not achieved through mutual threats, nor through the use of weapons, which sow destruction, suffering, and death, but only through reasonable, sincere, and responsible dialogue.

@wwgish You should see Carry-On with Jason Bateman if you haven’t, it’s a great Xmas action/thriller. I gave it a chance and didn’t regret it.

@wwgish It’s a warm envelope of sound, it brings you in and beckons without being cloying, and it’s tight and uniform without total homogeny. Part of it for me too is all the sexy breathy British vowels that trail on.
