Literally did not recognize Mr. McCallister for the first several scenes of this movie. Still hard to believe it’s the same person.

@impression_ists I tend to oscillate between them, depending on what’s going on in my life. During a period of upheaval and manic energy, VanGogh’s pieces were validating, like a friend. Nowadays I prefer the stillness of Monet, especially water scenes, for the same reason.

@BonsaiCole @cinesthesian I watched it a few weeks ago for the first time in probably a decade, it holds up so well. I just found out it’s been released on Blu-ray in the US within the last year or two, first HD release I think. I still have the same DVD I bought at the Hampshire Mall in 2002.

@wwgish @RightOnQueueTV The Thing hands down. The real terror in that film isn’t instilled by the creature but by the fact that it’s hidden among characters we’ve come to know and care about. And I can’t even with the practical effects. It’s like the sister film to Invasion of the Body Snatchers

I am following with deep concern what is happening in the Middle East and in Iran during this tumultuous time. Stability and peace are not achieved through mutual threats, nor through the use of weapons, which sow destruction, suffering, and death, but only through reasonable, sincere, and responsible dialogue.

@wwgish You should see Carry-On with Jason Bateman if you haven’t, it’s a great Xmas action/thriller. I gave it a chance and didn’t regret it.

The real question here is not whether Die Hard is a Christmas movie (it is), but why everyone is obsessed with this point but we never talk about Lethal Weapon, the true ultimate '80s Christmas action movie.

@wwgish It’s a warm envelope of sound, it brings you in and beckons without being cloying, and it’s tight and uniform without total homogeny. Part of it for me too is all the sexy breathy British vowels that trail on.

@BonsaiCole No lie I was listening to Chrome by Catherine Wheel like 20 minutes ago. I'll have to revisit this one next! They were so, so good.
