Trotzdem spannend.

@dormantdev @TylerGlaiel I’ve never seen an in wall toilet in the USA. A friend’s broke (Europe) and granted I looked for 15 seconds but seemed like a pain. In the USA when the flapper goes out you simply replace it. Like four step process. Idk what you do with euro toilets. Might be fine but idk

just looking at what expensive houses in other states look like out of curiosity and there is some horrifying stuff. See a "luxury" house in vegas but then you zoom out and its on a block with 20 copies of the exact same house on tiny lots every single house here is >$2m

@ncole_r Remember when the Nazis issued the Frontkämpferprivileg that allowed Jewish officials to keep their positions if they served in WW1 and so many were able to show veteran status that the Nazis removed their positions as "obsolete" in a butthurt hissy-fit?

@txgermanbre Russians weren't allowed to protest war. So they protested food prices. Other protests are limited as well? Post in Vkontakte to ask people for help to find your dog at that place at that time. Putin has no choice, he has to escalate. Until he runs out of soft options.

@txgermanbre It's the consequences of a political effect almost as stringent as a natural law: you cannot maintain constant societal control with constant repression. You have to constantly increase pressure because people will find ways to circumvent existing measures.

What on Earth is Putin thinking here? This is obvious to everyone including the Russian people. What is the outcome? The reason? It does not seem logical. It seems like paranoia and forcing an outcome you wish to avoid in the first place
Christo Grozev@christogrozev

There are few things Putin can fuck up *and* risk rebellion from the lower/ middle class. Breaking the social contract of "you stay out of politics, I give you a laid-back, convenient life" is one. E-life was part of the deal. Take that away, and risk disgruntlement.

@Billbrowder @gepardtatze I don't know, Ukraine has limited resources for deep strikes and political measures greatly limited Russia's oil revenue the last 6 months. Strikes on chemical and electronics factories give the impression that Ukraine took that opportunity to reorder priorities.

It feels to me like the gloves are off. Although we will not know what was going on behind the scenes, I suspect Ukraine had moderated their attacks on Russia in response to pressure from Trump. With him being totally consumed by the war with Iran, Ukraine now seems to be uninhibited in using their firepower on Russian economic targets
Yaroslav Trofimov@yarotrof

Ukraine, meanwhile, tries to limit Russia’s windfall from rising oil prices. Ukrainian drones struck overnight the oil export terminal port of Primorsk on the Baltic Sea, near St. Petersburg.

@vbouchouev @UrbanCourtyard It was sunny yesterday afternoon in Berlin, so my daughter and I walked to a nearby playground to enjoy spring. On the way back, we stopped for a coffee. The owner knows us. He asked my kid by name whether she wants a "Babyccino". Life's good in the city.

A possibly substantial share of the young adult population may be postponing having kids because they cannot stomach moving to a drive-everywhere suburb and doing Costco hauls This is why society would benefit enormously from building more family-compatible housing in walkable city neighborhoods, where many adults prefer to be @jishbia if you build it they will come

How do people in the suburbs genuinely look forward to Friday night on the couch, Saturday morning at Costco, and call that a weekend? Like you really moved out of the city just to LARP as your parents at 34?

@ParanoidPol An attack on Nato will not unite the Russians. Even the Ukraine war is unpopular despite the framing of bringing Russian soil home. Starting a YOLO-swag-letsgoo" against a rearming Europe three times the size of Russia will be considered suicide by most Russians.

I’m not going to speculate as to whether this is accurate or not but I will say that if a war going badly started going even worse for a despot and they were concerned about the optics weakening their stature, a crazy unthinkable Hail Mary to unite the population in a greater struggle is a play.

There are growing concerns that Russia could attack the Baltic states within the next 1–2 months. Preparations for a potential invasion of Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia are reportedly in their final stages. A scenario similar to Ukraine in 2014 is also being discussed — starting with information operations and internal destabilization, followed by possible military action. We already understand that Russia is preparing for escalation. But here’s what’s happening inside the potential target countries: • Social media groups have appeared calling for autonomy in Estonia’s Narva region and the broader Ida-Viru area. • They are sharing a “flag,” a “national anthem,” and even mock plans for a “militia.” • Many posts frame this as “protecting Russian identity.” • Authorities have warned that participation in such activities could lead to criminal charges. Meanwhile, amid growing public concern, Latvia’s State Security Service chief, Normunds Mežviets, made a stark statement: “They will kill us all.” ❗️Some analysts warn that a Russian offensive against the Baltic states could come as early as May 2026 — echoing what happened in Ukraine in 2022. Notably, similar warnings were published in late 2021, shortly before Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. At that time, reports that Russia planned to seize large parts of Ukraine — including Kyiv — were widely dismissed. In hindsight, those warnings proved accurate. Now, similar projections are being made again — this time focused on the Baltic region. Whether this is coincidence or a troubling pattern remains to be seen. But one piece of advice for people in these countries is simple: stay alert and be prepared with basic emergency supplies. There are also signs of tightening control inside Russia. Restrictions on mobile internet and platforms like Telegram are increasing. For years, little was done — but now controls are being actively strengthened. This is unlikely about preventing protests — there is little organized opposition left. Instead, it may be part of broader internal preparation. For example, Russia re-established the Moscow and Leningrad military districts in early 2024 — likely to improve mobilization and military administration. Preparation appears to be ongoing and serious. And unfortunately, Ukraine alone may not be able to significantly disrupt it. When a regime feels cornered, its actions can become less predictable — and more dangerous. Yes, the media can sometimes exaggerate threats. But given recent developments, this no longer looks like simple fearmongering. Whether these forecasts come true remains to be seen. But the risk is real. History may one day define this period as the beginning of something much larger. It’s better to be prepared than surprised.
