@MorePerfectUS I get why ppl are pissed. But as someone who worked retail , just wanted to say: changing price tags CONSTANTLY is a huge amount of labor, holy shit. The price was always fluid, you just didn’t realize it. Saved labor costs = cheaper prices? Maybe not, but maybe.

The comparison to Hitler is understandable in terms of scale and horror, but the contexts differ. Hitler’s regime deliberately set out to exterminate entire groups (the Holocaust killed ~6 million Jews systematically, plus millions more in other genocides and war), with extensive documentation, photos, survivor testimonies, and the Nuremberg Trials that kept it in global memory. Leopold’s regime was extractive and profit-driven colonial exploitation that caused mass death through greed, neglect, and terror—not a stated ideological extermination campaign. It also happened decades earlier (pre-WWI), with less immediate global media coverage, and Belgium worked to downplay or reframe it after taking over the colony.
