@TW1TTERJAIL @Aliscottish @Defence_Index Aircraft provide a higher operational tempo and less warning, provided you have air superiority. Missiles are great, but they have to fly in more predictable flight paths than say a jet (obviously depending on the type of missile).

They shut down the airspace early on with AA weapons. Russia didn't need to sortie aircraft to bomb targets anyhow. They used medium range missiles and Shahed drones. Russia continued to field tanks as they had them, but were gradually being destroyed, so much so that they exhausted the supply of T-80s, 72s and 90s, etc. They were digging deep into T-54s which are mostly gone at this point too. They used them because they could indeed make SOME tactical gains, and didn't value the lives of tankmen at all. Allies were too afraid to send advanced weapons out of fear of hurting Putin's feelings, and when the orange geriatric took over, the US pretty much eliminated all aid. Drones are prevalent out of necessity. And they got REALLY good at it. both building and piloting them. I don't think tanks and arty are useless, they have a place somewhere depending on the type of battlefield, and how electronic warfare advances (EMPs, etc). It's really clear though, that if you're not on board with drone warfare (look at the poor performance of the US and Arab states in Iran conflict) you're not going to win without tremendous losses, or at all.

Purpose build and more expensive weapons systems will always do better than any of the cheap drones you see buzzing about.

And really, the only reason why drones are as prevalent in Ukraine is because the air space is still heavily contested.
