In Garth Ennis’s original comic books, Frenchie is a much more bizarre, almost cartoonish stereotype who wears a striped shirt and a beret, and boasts an incredibly absurd backstory involving jousting on bicycles. Showrunner Eric Kripke and Capone actively worked to ground the live-action version, making him a deeply traumatized, poetic soul instead.
