The Immaculata appears in this world, without the least stain of sin, the masterpiece of God's hands, full of grace. God, the most Holy Trinity, beholds the lowliness (i.e., the humility, the root of all her other virtues) of his handmaid, and "does great things" for her (cf. Lk 1:49). God the Father gives her his own Son to be her Son; God the Son descends into her womb; and God the Holy Spirit forms the body of Christ in the womb of this most pure virgin. "And the Word was made flesh" (Jn 1:14). The Immaculata becomes the Mother of God. The fruit of the love of God in his Trinitarian life and of Mary the Immaculata, is Christ, the God-man. Hence forth all the other sons of God must be modeled after this first Son of God, the God-man, the infinite One. They must reproduce his traits; by imitating Christ souls reach sanctity. . . . This is the union brought about by the spousal love of the soul for Christ, through its re-semblance to him, and by God's action. But if anyone does not wish to have Mary Immaculate for his Mother, he will not have Christ for his Brother. . . . Since the firstborn Son, the God-man was conceived only with the specific consent of the most Blessed Virgin, the same must hold true for all men, who must be conformed to their first model in all things ("Sketches for a book," 1940).

I hope everyone loaded up on the rib roast deals leading up to Easter. Most were $6.99/lb bone in. Way cheaper than the $21.99/lb ribeye prices nowadays. Grabbed a good strip roast too. I needed up with probably close to 50lbs. Pay up front to have steaks for a while. Threw most of them in the freezer, dry salt brine a few to eat over the days. God is good.

@lessofJonathan Remember the ‘24 campaign promises? Exactly what I voted for! We’re going to war in the Middle East! We’re deporting hardly anyone! We’re prosecuting no one for the Epstein stuff! We’re building no more wall! We’re increasing foreign aid spending !

The thing that worries me most about the coming war isn't the war itself. It's that I'll have to pretend I saw it coming while I was posting about it in real time

I want a cigarette. Don’t lecture me. I’ve never been more than an occasional smoker and that’s not going to change. Haven’t had one in years. Tonight, I wish I had one. Just one of those nights.

@SteveSkojec I used to smoke 2-3 packs a day. About 20 years ago I quit cold turkey(by the grace of God) When I’m with my brother(he lives in Arkansas, so a few times a year) we’ll share a pack or a couple cigars when we go fishing or work on something outside.

This policing of the laity is what drives so many out of the Novus Ordo and into the TLM if they can. Because the constant busybodying of the NO and demand that people be "doing" something at all times simply isn't appealing to them. It truly is astonishing how the Novus Ordo is predicated entirely on mid-20th century psychology regarding how people best learn and engage with a topic (i.e., through direct verbal instruction and "doing" something to demonstrate comprehension) that has now been shown to be utterly deficient in comparison to, say, quiet engagement with ritual using all five senses.

@CatholicRob Yes, people should actively participate in mass.

Allow me to translate what Thomas Reese is really saying here: "A wave of new Catholics is coming this Easter. Unfortunately, they are mostly people who really believe in the Church's teachings. Unfortunately, they are not secularized cultural accommodationists like me. What we really need are more converts to Catholicism who do not believe in Catholicism."
Thomas Reese, S.J.@ThomasReeseSJ

No argument really, but I love how the Luminous mysteries address the heresies/errors of our time. The baptism of Our Lord- how many lapsed no longer baptize their children and those heretics that deny baptismal regeneration. The Wedding at Cana- Mary’s intercession calling him to the cross. And the sanctity of man and woman in Holy matrimony. The Proclamation of the Kingdom- do penance… Christ came to call sinners. And the error we see with Zionists. -The very stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner; this was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes’ Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a nation producing the fruits of it. - The Transfiguration- desire for holiness-to see God face to face; communion of Saints, speaking to Moses and Elijah The institution of the Holy Eucharist- his flesh is true food and his blood is true drink indeed. Quite easy to spend an hour in contemplation.

The artificial introduction of the Luminous Mysteries is quite a good illustration of the two mentalities which divide the Church. On the one hand, we have a practice which is connected both to the reciting of 150 psalms and to the vision of St Dominic. It has evolved with the addition of the petition, and following fatima, the common but optional practice of addiing the Fatima prayer. But the basic structure of 150 hail Marys, divided into 15 mysteries divided into a trinity of joyful, sorrowful and glorious which so well reflect the experience of Catholic life remained unchanged for seven centuries. On the other, you have the guys who always think they've got a better idea. So out goes the connection with the psalms, out goes the rosary hallowed by Marian revelation, and in comes a set of no doubt worthy meditations, designed by enthusiasts to make sense of the gap in Jesus' ministry perceived in the original mysteries. Of course the Pope who introduced them beatified the man who thought them up. Of course they are optional. But somehow, one more aspect of the old faith has been pushed out of the doorway, and one more division of the church ushered in.

When did it become mandatory for the laity to do this, exactly? Are you saying Catholics who didn't verbally respond at low Masses or sung Masses where the schola sang the responses for centuries before 1969 were failing to "assent" to those prayers? Because if you are, that's laughable.

So if the only Mass you can attend is a Novus Ordo in Vietnamese, and you don't speak Vietnamese, don't bother going because you can't say the responses, I guess. Do these laity police even hear themselves or think through the logical consequences of their own arguments?
Joseph Francis ♱@VadeadIesum

@CatholicRob People should actively participate in the mass by responding.
