@ProtPhilosopher The Magisterium is/belongs to the Second Person of the Trinity. The Magisterium is the authority of the Church. But Christ the Bridegroom is the authority of His Church. He is the authority; He is the teacher; He is the Magisterium, exercised in His mystical body & in His vicar.

Ask your Catholic friends and interlocutors this. Can a person who reads Romans, is aided by the Spirit, sits under faithful preaching, and participates in a believing community come to a saving knowledge of justification by faith? If the answer is yes, then what's the epistemic role of the Magisterium in salvation? And if the answer is no, how do you avoid making the Magisterium a fourth member of the Trinity?

@hf_222222 And on top of that, Luke-Acts was written after Mark, and why would St. Luke omit to mention either the destruction of the Temple or the martyrdom of St. Paul?

Nah, that is no better than the initial rationale posted, why wouldn't you recount a prediction you think is from God himself which through the whole period was a perfectly plausible outcome.
Matthew Hartke@MatthewHartke

Not really. The relevant question isn’t whether Jesus could have foreseen the destruction of the temple, but whether Mark would have placed that prediction so prominently in his narrative had it not yet been vindicated. That’s unlikely.

It's worth noting that a true threat to to target civilians is ALWAYS a war crime not only if you dont ultimately target them, but even if you only ever intended it as a completely empty threat the whole time. And likewise, threatening genocide is always a crime against humanity

@mariocataldo @JLLiedl It's a pun. Which works especially well because nothing is more Peruvian than the potato, so it's also a great hyperbole.

Working on a documentary on Pope Leo's time in Peru, and I've learned a fantastic new phrase: a religious sister told me the American-born pope "es mas peruano qua la papa."

Today is Tuesday, and that means TACO. Also, option 4 counts as option 3. The only legitimate deal we could get that would mean this ultimatum worked is A) IRI opens up Hormuz, or B) IRI recognizes Israel, or C) IRI voluntarily capitulates their regime. None of which is plausible
Scott Greenfield@ScottGreenfield

What will happen tonight? Option 1: Trump orders the bombing of civilian infrastructure and the military complies. Option 2: Trump orders the bombing of civilian infrastructure and the military refuses. Option 3: Trump chickens out. Option 4: Trump makes up lie about a deal.

@thelb236 The fact that exceptional circumstances can impact obligations doesn't mean nobody has any obligations. How can we say someone assisted the Mass if they don't even assent to the prayers of the Anaphora? & how can we say they assented if they refused to say Amen at the Per Ipsum?

So if the only Mass you can attend is a Novus Ordo in Vietnamese, and you don't speak Vietnamese, don't bother going because you can't say the responses, I guess. Do these laity police even hear themselves or think through the logical consequences of their own arguments?
Joseph Francis ♱@VadeadIesum

@CatholicRob People should actively participate in the mass by responding.

@ddayen Well, also before Congress can override a veto, the President is allowed to sit on the bill for 9.99 business days until actually vetoing it. So if the President goes crazy and decides to throw the football, we throw the football.

I guess you could override that veto, but you'd need a two-thirds vote, so again, if there's any question it's not going to happen. And it gets crazier.

The internet: Noooo, you can't call yourself America! You have to be the "United States" ughhh! Also the internet: Wait why do you only say which of the United States you're from? No fair, you have to say you're from "America," ughhh!

@nocontextmemes More people from federal countries should do this. "Lower Saxony" or "Jalisco" is enough information to tell me where your hometown is, and if someone doesn't know what & where Jalisco is--especially if they aren't willing to ask/look it up--that's a skill issue.

CARDINAL PIZZABALLA AT THE HOLY SEPULCHRE ON EASTER SUNDAY: 'No people, no language, no history is excluded from this hope. If death has been conquered, then no life is “too lost” to be sought. Easter is universal because it is born in a specific, concrete, real place—here—and for this very reason it can truly reach the whole world.  This is not an abstract thought. We are standing in the place where the stone was rolled away, yet we know all too well that many stones remain sealed around us. Too many tombs have been dug again by hatred, violence, and retaliation. In this Holy Land, which is the mother of faith and has also become a land of constant conflict, the question resounds with dramatic force: “Where have you laid him?” For it seems that we place the Lord back in a tomb every time we believe that death has the final word over history, every time we resign ourselves to the logic of the enemy, every time we call an armed truce “peace” and the calculation of damage “justice.”  But Easter tells us this: the Risen One is not confined within our strategies for survival. He is a prisoner neither of our reasoning nor of our fears. He has already gone forth, and he goes before us'

@LinkofSunshine @GracchiSimp Time for you to brush up on your reading comprehension and knowledge of legal terms and concepts. A POLICY is not a CONTRACT. Which requires two parties to be in WRITTEN AGREEMENT. They can change their POLICY at any time.. and that's the point of Job's email

@BushLeagueBlake @CodifyBaseball Again, MLB already admits a buffer requiring 0.10" to overturn the ump, yet the median error for ABS calls (so 75% confidence) is much higher at 0.16" I'm saying we should expand the buffer to 0.25", not b/c OP isn't a strike, but b/c we aren't sure enough that the ump is wrong

@BushLeagueBlake @CodifyBaseball The ABS callenge system gives the same allowance for error (of 0.10") as the Hawkeye in tennis, except that in tennis the ball has to literally touch a visible chalk line instead of a mid-air boundary that varies for each batter. So the ABS is much less reliable at that range.
