@Fullcarry Ed you strike me as old enough to have been rooting for the CIA coup against Mossadegh. Do you have moth-bitten paper certificates in the Anglo-Persian Oil Company or something?

@bonddude The absurd backstory to why they hold it in Jackson Hole, WY was to entice the then-Fed Chair (Volcker I think?) to show up to it because he liked fly-fishing

Proposal: If the Fed really wants to show how much it cares about ALL US citizens when setting monpol, it should do its August conference in Flint or Erie -- not Jackson Hole

@PolemicTMM Highly recommend you/friend read the magisterial “Manual for Survival” by Kate Brown. Radioactive fallout still gets into the European food supply from Chernobyl. There’s something to be said about cost-benefits of lithium batteries, but it’s incomparable to radioactive fallout

Lunch with a good friend. He observed. More people were killed in the recent Korean lithium battery plant fire than at Fukushima. More people were killed in the last three major lithium battery plant fires than at Chernobyl.

Practical men who believe themselves to be quite exempt from any intellectual influence, are usually the slaves of some defunct science fiction author.

@yashalevine Check out the stock prices of Lockheed Martin and Raytheon. They struggled after the Covid crash. The MIC got left out of all that stimulus. Now they're getting theirs when everyone else's stimulus has gotten cancelled.

In the good ol’ days of the 1800s dudes were inventing whole fake ass countries and getting hundreds of marks to pay to be shipped to their deaths on promises of land, riches and noble titles. Now we have dorks with links to pictures of monkeys. history.com/news/the-con-m…

I am aware this is not a relatable complaint, but holy shit wine prices have gone absolutely stratospheric in the last six months +25-50% in some cases for even extremely midrange stuff at auction. I guess the quar wine bug got a lot of new blood into collecting?
