Rewilding has become something of a toxic term for lots of people; including many who are actively restoring and improving habitats for wildlife, whether through rewetting bogs, planting trees or managing moorlands for the benefit of red listed species

I’m concerned about the misinformation about Oostvaardersplassen - the dead animals were intentionally culled and left as carrion (natural processes) as part of the “Serangeti rules” experiment (also ring fence by humankind). Rewilding projects cull animals too but off-site.

This is insane arrogance towards a ancient and deeply treasured historical landscape + towards the traditional farming community - and indeed to thoughtful programs that seek to bio-diversity, and food production (eg @herdyshepherd1 ). Thoughtless, damaging, inappropriate.
