Rewilding has become something of a toxic term for lots of people; including many who are actively restoring and improving habitats for wildlife, whether through rewetting bogs, planting trees or managing moorlands for the benefit of red listed species c4pmc.co.uk/post/the-probl…

I’m concerned about the misinformation about Oostvaardersplassen - the dead animals were intentionally culled and left as carrion (natural processes) as part of the “Serangeti rules” experiment (also ring fence by humankind). Rewilding projects cull animals too but off-site.

@RoryStewartUK @c4_pmc @herdyshepherd1 Hi Rory, do you read our work for the IUCN? Here: conbio.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/co… and iucn.org/resources/issu… would be very interested to hear your thoughts.

This is insane arrogance towards a ancient and deeply treasured historical landscape + towards the traditional farming community - and indeed to thoughtful programs that seek to bio-diversity, and food production (eg @herdyshepherd1 ). Thoughtless, damaging, inappropriate.

New Countryside 2.0 Green and pleasant land? Don’t believe the hype. Green rolling fields = biodiversity desert Peace and Quiet = deathly silence It’s a chocolate box desert out there baby. Rewild it!

@CemRtg @ConBiology You think you have worked out what works, and I hope you have. But remember the joker in the pack. Unforeseen consequences are just that - unforeseen and sometimes unforgiving.

@CemRtg @ConBiology Not appropriate to all countries. UK's unique & rich mix of species evolved alongside centuries of traditional farming. Since WW2, Larger fields, huge vehicles, intensive farming, chemical dependence, altered practices, soil compaction, hedge removal, Winter wheat, forages😩 ...
