If I had to pick a player who's become sneaky overrated, it'd be Romanov. Doesn't provide much offensively, extremely turnover prone in transition, and leaky off the rush. TOI, physicality, and a 93.7% save percentage with him on the ice doing a lot of heavy lifting.

Instead the reality is your team lost in a very normal and predictable way and is much more likely to be improved through normal changes, like replacing bad players with good ones, changing the coaching that visibly wasn’t working, fostering prospects into parts, etc.

I think at the core, the issue with the fanbases of large, heavily covered teams like the Leafs is the development of a kind of narcissism. A belief that your team loses in a special, moral, narratively significant way and therefore requires narratively significant changes.
