At least vibe coders don’t pretend to know what they are talking about while being righteous unlike vibe optimizers. Chat, it gives negative aura.

At the start of 2025: * RGFW had 800 stars, now it's *nearly* 1600 * the discord had 29 members, now it's 100 It's been very exciting to watch the project grow and have more people actually using it. Something tells me this year will be the year of the hedgehog.

@imaginalnika To be clear it's just an alternative to SDL's windowing system. Subsystems such as graphics, controller I/O, etc are not supported in this library. Although I do have other smaller libraries I'm working on that do support those things. 😉

After nearly 7 months of development and testing, RGFW 1.8 is officially out on GitHub! If you're interested, check it out and let me know what you think.

Check out the pre-release for RGFW 1.8.0 on GitHub! The finalized release of 1.8.0 will be soon, I want to make sure I can get as much bugs as possible caught and fixed. There have been a lot of changes since 1.7.0 and I want RGFW 1.8.0 to be solid. github.com/ColleagueRiley…

@TheGingerBill A lot of people arguing online do not think perceptual data has anything to do with abstract ideas/theory. They're either pragmatists who only accept perceptual data without abstract thought or rationalists who only think in abstract ideas without relation to perceptual data.

I swear a lot of the time when I am arguing with people on the internet, it is with people who cannot understand another person's point of view, regardless of what is being discussed—a complete lack of theory of mind. The problem is it's not always possible to know right away.

@TheGingerBill I find it strange that people can understand that using functions is not necessarily functional. But they can’t understand that using objects is not necessarily OOP.

@TheGingerBill I would argue that functional programming is nearly as bad as OOP. Both are about orienting code around some high level abstraction rather than choosing abstractions based on your data.

This might sound weird but hear me out: The essence of what I think a lot of people mean when they talk about "functional programming" is actually simpler than you think: It's immutability & everything-is-an-expression, and nothing with regards to the type system, per se.

I moved a lot of the RGFW/RSGL ports/bindings over to the RSGL organization. This is so that way community members who are using these projects can more easily maintain them. If you would like to be invited to the org, let me know. github.com/RSGL

Other forms of support such as testing, feedback, PRs, and sharing all go a long way. Every bit helps make systems programming more accessible, reliable, and sane.

If my work on RGFW, RSGL, RFont, or my systems articles has helped you, consider sponsoring me on GitHub. I'm focused on building solid, reality-grounded foundations for better, lower-level software. Support keeps it moving. github.com/sponsors/Colle…

Why do smart people use OOP or functional programming? It's because they are principled approaches to programming. However those principles are not grounded in reality. Sadly this has led to a lot of great programmers explicitly accepting pragmatism. But people need principles.

@BetterSoftwareC Sadly, plenty of FOSS software is just as bad, if not worse, than what Microsoft shits out.
