Democrats achieved not one of their shutdown demands and kept DHS closed for 40+ days, all while disrupting flights and endangering Americans.

For over a month, the defund-the-police Democrats have kept @DHSgov closed in an attempt to slow down ICE’s efforts to remove murderers, rapists, pedophiles, gang members, and terrorists from our country and open our borders. Time and time again the Democrats have prioritized violent illegal aliens over American citizens. I thank @POTUS Trump for his leadership to ensure the hardworking men and women across DHS are paid.

Democrats kept DHS shut down for over 45 days because they wanted to extract policy changes designed to protect illegal immigrant criminals. Republicans are now reopening DHS without caving to a single radical Democrat demand.
Chuck Schumer@SenSchumer

The Senate did its work TWICE to fund key parts of DHS without funding the lawlessness of ICE and CBP.  House Republicans need to get to work and end the longest Republican shutdown in history.

The reason Democrats started what is now the longest shutdown in DHS history is because they were demanding dramatic reforms to the way ICE operates. They now get zero of those reforms after negotiations fell apart in the Senate. None. Dems are claiming victory because Republicans are now agreeing to a DHS funding bill with zero dollars for ICE & CBP and Dems can message to their base that they held the line and didn’t fund Trump’s mass deportation agenda. But ICE & CBP are already pre-funded (not entirely) by the One Big Beautiful Bill, immigration enforcement operations have continued without issue, and Republicans plan to give ICE & CBP even more money in a second reconciliation bill, which will require no Democratic votes in the Senate. So what did this DHS shutdown accomplish, other than hurt a lot of people & create chaos at airports?

The dangerous Democrat shutdown of American security prioritized illegal immigrant criminals over the safety of the American people. Republicans are moving quickly to fully fund DHS.

Senate Republicans knew Democrats would try to abolish ICE.  That’s why we pre-funded ICE and Border Patrol last summer.  ICE will continue to arrest and deport criminal illegal aliens, whether Democrats like it or not.

If Democrats like no taxes on overtime, why did every single one of them vote against it?

Because Senate Democrats didn’t end up accepting the Republican offer on DHS funding & negotiations fell apart yesterday, Dems will get *zero* of the ICE reforms they had been demanding, including ones that GOP had already agreed to, like showing ID, increased Congressional oversight, agreements to not hit sensitive locations, etc. These reforms were the reason Dems started the shutdown in the first place, and now instead of getting a few concessions on their demand list, they get none. The only thing they secured was no funding for CBP & ICE, which are largely already funded via the OBBB, and Republicans will seek to fund them even further without Dem votes in reconciliation instead. As for the Dem’s demand list on ICE reforms? “That ship has sailed,” Sen. Majority Leader John Thune said this morning. “They kissed that opportunity goodbye by failing to provide funding for those agencies.”

President Trump is doing absolutely the right thing to get TSA agents paid. Senate Democrats are completely unable to come to an agreement to help the American people. President Trump is showing leadership at a time the Democrats are continuing to fight against the hardworking, freedom loving people of our country. Democrats are continuing to stand on the side of illegal immigrant criminals as opposed to American citizens.

What are Senate Democrats doing to address the pain their shutdown is causing? Nothing. No apologies. No solutions. No concerns. Democrats cannot escape the fact that they created this crisis and the American people want it fixed.
