@Solphendukaa I was in a Gemini rabbit hole trying to understand exactly this today! The guy who died in an SA hospital, his wife died shortly after. She collapsed in the airport right before her flight to Netherlands as she was planning to go home?

Someone please explain to me like I'm a 5 year old . The sick Hantavirus ship heading to Cape Verde was denied docking in Cape Verde because they are protecting their public health . Why did we allow it to dock , accepting sick people and exposing our public health ? Furthermore , One sick person ended up Jozi . Meaning they took a flight , isn't that more exposure of public health (Airport etc ) I'm so curious . Please school me.

@afneil Seriously would like to understand the obsession with the Falklands. Is it a strategic launchpad for Patagonian attacks? I believe if each citizen had been given £1M in the last war, it would have been cheaper than the cost of the war for the UK.

The Falklands are now defended by a substantial and well-armed British garrison, Typhoon jets and the formidable Sky Sabre air defence system. Plus provision for rapid reinforcements. None of that existed in 1982. There’s no way Argentina could just ‘walk in and take over.’

Britain could lose the Falklands because of weak leadership. It's not the 80s anymore, there's no Thatcher in charge and the UK is a depressing shell of its former self. If Argentina simply walks in and takes over, possibly soon with Trump's approval, what exactly will Keir Starmer do? Send an angry worded letter? Would he even care at all?

Did you know the British Lightning once outran the F-14 and F-15 to catch a Concorde? 🧐 This isn't a fairytale, it happened in April 1985 during a NATO exercise. British Airways offered up their supersonic flagship as the ultimate high-altitude rabbit, challengeing NATO’s best of the best to a stern-chase intercept at Mach 2.2 at 57,000 ft. While the "Teen Series" superstars struggled to close the gap in the thin, freezing air of the stratosphere, the "old man" of the group - the EE Lightning - was the only one with the raw lungs to overhaul the Concorde and claim the "kill." 🧵

@yashar Revolver or pistol would have accomplished zero anyway. Life isn't a Disney show. I just hope he didn't expose naive tourists to similar danger without adequate protection.

This is really unfair to Gary. Calling Klaserie a “safari park” implies it’s some artificial, unethical tourist trap. Klaserie is a private wildlife reserve within the Greater Kruger ecosystem. Gary was a conservationist who offered walking safaris so people could see and experience wildlife in a fundamentally different way — unlike many of the truly unethical safari operations in South Africa. May he rest in peace after contributing so much to the protection of our wildlife neighbors.

@faborez @mikegardner_wb Haha, video mode engaged in my imagination! 🎥 Picture Keir Starmer on a live news desk, camera zooming in as he delivers that exact quote with a bewildered shrug. Here's the "paused" frame straight from that clip:

BREAKING NEWS: “Starmer denies knowing he was Prime Minister” Sir Kier Starmer has revealed that no one told him until last Tuesday he won the 2024 election and had become PM. He told Beth Rigby “I was totally kept in the dark by my officials. I’m really angry about it.”

@morrow_nw I don't sympathise with career politicians unless they have a stellar record and are being unfairly prosecuted. Neither applies in his case, and there is no gun to his head.

Feel sorry for Roelf Meyer…admitted in a recent interview he felt too old for the job and lacked the energy. He will have to defend Cyril’s close ties with the IRGC and its anti West stance. May have to beg to have our FM accredited for the G20. Etc etc

@BullyEsq *gets. Btw, try search for images of Deng on Google.... It's almost as if they deliberately deflect, so as not to show his race.

@afneil China is building ~30 reactors, not sure anyone serious really cares what the UK policy is on nuclear as a power source. Don't think the UK is the driver of yellowcake prices.

I’ll let you into a secret: big nuclear power stations are hugely capital intensive. Our newest — Hinkley Point C — won’t come on stream until 2031 — six years late on original launch date. So can’t count to green jobs before 2030 (MIliband benchmark). When it is fully running it will employ circa 900 permanent positions. It’s also the most expensive power station of any kind in the world: twice over its original £18bn budget (2015 prices) at current £35bn (2015 prices). Around £50bn in today’s prices. For 900 jobs. My, my these ‘green jobs’ are expensive. And that’s if you count nuclear power as green. Here’s another secret. AI data processing is also hugely capital intensive. As well as energy gobbling. Not all the energy they use will be green because they require reliable dispatchable power — and renewables are not that. Also, just because you work somewhere powered by renewables does not necessarily make your job ‘green’.
ThickAsBrexit@AsBrexit

@afneil Nuclear is going to be huge. AI data processing centres (of which the energy requirement will be huge) aren't going to power themselves. We're going to see a shift in how our country works.
