My maid of honor looked at this dress I'd spent eight months waiting for and said, "That's... not a wedding dress. It's a costume." The words hit like ice water. I'd fallen in love with the embroidery after seeing the seamstress's work on the Tedooo app - she specializes in traditional dresses, and I wanted something that honored my grandmother's heritage. Every flower was hand-stitched, every hummingbird placed with intention. It cost me three months of savings and countless late-night messages about thread colors and placement. Now I'm two months from the wedding, and my entire bridal party is "gently suggesting" I find something more "classic." My mother-in-law offered to buy me a "proper" dress from David's Bridal. But when I put this on, I see my grandmother's garden, her stories about village celebrations, the culture she left behind when she immigrated. Yes, it's not a traditional white gown. Yes, people might whisper. But isn't a wedding dress supposed to make you feel like the truest version of yourself? I'm torn between keeping peace and keeping this dress that makes my heart sing every time I look at those embroidered birds.

You just appeared in my feed but I’m so glad you did. Thank you for speaking the truth. I could have used your words several years ago when my daughter Catholic high school began teaching progressive social justice, including “intersectional political ideology” and posting LGBTQ+ support posters across the school. I addresses both issues with administration and was admonished. A dear friend of mine did the same and was told that the school would not be returning to pre-Vatican 2 days The idea that Vatican 2 somehow freed Catholics from judgement and accountability is incorrect and gravely wrong. In speaking up I lost a lot of “friends.” And I, a stay at home mom and significant volunteer and donor to the school, became a problem. The president stopped speaking to me. I was a troublemaker. I may not be a perfect Catholic but I know what Catholicism is and teaches. And I knew what that school was preaching was not Catholic. It was progressive indoctrination, sans religion. It broke my heart and hurt my family’s relationship with the Catholic Church. But we have returned. We have fiery young priest and my daughter, now in college, has returned to church and is dedicated to the TLM.

Si los alejo, pueden dejarme de seguir. Al que hay que seguir incondicionalmente es a Jesucristo, y a todos aquellos que nos acerquen a Él. Yo he escuchado muchas veces de parte de zurdos, liberales y masones que "la Iglesia está como está por los sacerdotes que no nos adaptamos al progreso de los tiempos". Pues miren, el progresismo ya se adaptó al progreso de los tiempos durante 60 años. Resultados: iglesias vacías, seminarios vacíos, monasterios vacíos, conventos de monjas muriendo por falta de vocaciones, etc. En cambio, los lugares donde se mantiene la doctrina de siempre tienen Iglesias llenas, seminarios llenos, conventos llenos, monasterios llenos. Crecen los lugares donde se conserva la tradición de la Iglesia, y mueren los lugares donde más se adaptan al mundo. Cuando la Iglesia quiere adaptarse al mundo deja de ser la Iglesia. Cuando me refiero al mundo no me refiero a lo bueno del mismo sino a la "mundanidad" (lo mundano, que es lo pecaminoso). Una analogía es el caso de Coca Cola. La fórmula original funcionó como un buen negocio. Cuando cambiaron la fórmula mil veces, Coca Cola dejó de ser atractiva. Luego, volvieron a la fórmula original, entonces volvieron a tener éxito. La Iglesia no es un negocio, pues busca la gloria de Dios y la salvación de las almas. No buscamos número, buscamos que las almas que sean fieles a la verdad puedan abrazarla y salvarse, pero no buscamos como negociantes contentar al mundo y a la mayoría. Sin embargo, lo concreto es que la Iglesia que da frutos es la Iglesia de siempre, no la Iglesia del mundo. Cuando la Iglesia predica que Cristo es el único Salvador, que ella es la única religión verdadera, que el infierno existe y que hay gente condenada; cuando la Iglesia predica que el aborto es un asesinato, que la ideología de género es perversa, que la cultura woke, el liberalismo, la izquierda, la masonería e ideologías afines no son compatibles con el Evangelio; cuando la Iglesia predica que no hay que tener sexo fuera del matrimonio, que los actos homosexuales son antinaturales y no pueden recibir aprobación en ningún caso; cuando la Iglesia predica todas estas cosas tiene frutos y frutos en abundancia, porque esto es lo que mandó Jesucristo: predicar la verdad, pues la verdad nos hará libres. Obviamente, el mensaje de la Iglesia no puede ser solo negativo. Debe ser positivo en primer lugar, ya que Cristo mandó anunciar buenas noticias. Yo también estoy en contra de que todo sermón sea pegando palos. Hay que hablar del amor de un Dios que se hizo hombre y murió en la cruz por nosotros; hay que hablar del cielo eterno que nos espera si somos fieles al Evangelio; hay que hablar de la necesidad de amar al prójimo en los pobres, en los más necesitados, en los más débiles. Todo esto hay que decirlo, porque el mensaje de la Iglesia en primer lugar es positivo. Sin embargo, no hay que dejar de predicar la verdad, por más que la verdad duela. La verdad duele, pero libera. Cristo es la verdad, y Él no tuvo reparos en hablar 18 veces de la existencia del infierno en el Evangelio. Por lo tanto, Dios bendice a la Iglesia si predica la verdad, no si se adapta con el mundo. Hace unos días, hablaba con un señor mayor, de 80 años. Este hombre es bastante progresista y cuando fui a confesarlo, luego de la confesión me dijo: "padre, nosotros en nuestra época quisimos dejar de lado la edad media e ir adaptarnos al mundo moderno. ¿Porqué ustedes los jóvenes, tanto sacerdotes como laicos quieren volver a lo que nosotros intentamos rechazar? Me impresiona como los jóvenes hoy se alejan del progresismo y se vuelven más conservadores...eso hasta me asusta". Le respondí: "porque nos interesa el producto original, no el nuevo. El producto original viene de Jesucristo, en cambio el nuevo viene de ustedes. Nosotros no seguimos a los hombres, seguimos a Jesucristo y la mundanidad que su generación predicó no es lo que predicó el Señor. No hay nada que inventar mi amigo. Cristo ya nos dijo cual es el camino a seguir, y lo marcó perfectamente. Hay que adaptarse a los tiempos en la medida que no vayamos contra el mensaje del Evangelio. Pero si adaptarse a los tiempos implica cambiar el mensaje del Señor, entonces no nos interesa. No seguimos a una moda ni a una ideología. Seguimos a Cristo, y a Cristo crucificado y resucitado. Él es el mismo, ayer, hoy y para siempre. No hay nada nuevo bajo el sol". No se trata de ser progresistas o tradicionalistas. Se trata de ser católicos. Hay dos fuentes de la revelación divina: la Escritura y la tradición; y ambas deben ser interpretadas por el Magisterio de la Iglesia. Un católico siempre cree en la Tradición y nunca la descarta, porque es una de las fuentes de la revelación. Por lo tanto, hay que ser católicos no según el mundo, ni según una moda, ni según una ideología. Hay que ser católicos siguiendo a una persona: Jesucristo, Dios y hombre verdadero. No hay nada que inventar, no hay nada nuevo bajo el sol. Ya sabemos cual es el camino, solo hay que seguirlo. Bendiciones para todos.
