@_beetlecat @TheTweetOfGod The Constitution, the document that defines the country, removes religion from the equation. If the constitution does not say we are a nation under God, we aren't. In fact, the Constitution PROTECTS people's expression of religion. The United States is secular by law.

@Cubature_ @TheTweetOfGod "Always" implies 'since the beginning.' The US was founded in 1776. The Constitution wasn't fully ratified until 1790, 14 years after its founding. We've ALWAYS been one nation under God, just like the founding document says.

@Cubature_ @TheTweetOfGod The original drafters of the Constitution literally ALL believed in one Christian God except Jefferson, who followed the teachings of Christ, but just didn't believe in his divinity. The White House post said we've always be one nation under God.... Just like the DOI says.

@_beetlecat @TheTweetOfGod The DOJ is the country's birth certificate. It does nothing more than say that we are not under British control. The founding fathers (big deal if you weren't aware) were a mix of theists, deists, agnostics, etc. Not all of them believed in God, let alone yours.

@_beetlecat @TheTweetOfGod If you want to take that specific document as gospel, fine, but they overruled it 12 years later. God has not been a part of the equation for any significant period of time, and that time is so far past it wouldn't be relevant in any case. Free country means *free* country.

@_beetlecat @TheTweetOfGod Regardless of what the Declaration says, the Constitution (somewhat important) intentionally avoids placing one religion in the spotlight. This nation was founded by people seeking freedom of religion. The Declaration of Independence was not meant to represent the nation.

@_beetlecat @TheTweetOfGod The Declaration of Independence is not the Constitution. The Constitution is a legal document, the Declaration of Independence is not. You're comparing the document that defines the core principles of the nation to a document that was written to tell everyone we weren't British.

@_beetlecat @TheTweetOfGod The "under God" part was added in 1954 (92 years after the pledge was originally written, 178 years after the country gained independence.) The United States was originally founded under the idea of religious freedom, not under one god as the original post claims.
