@Reil76 That has nothing to do with anything I just said our voting system does not produce a democratic result and then allowing MPs to freely switch parties just makes that result reflect the true voting intentions of the country even less

@DMCstan_ It is 1000% democratic! The constitution states The Constitution Act, 1867 (which sets up the House of Commons) and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms say nothing about parties, party loyalty, or banning switches.

If floor crossing truly went against democracy, we would not be voting for individual MPs at all, we would be voting only for parties. In Canada, we elect a local representative in each riding, not a fixed seat for a political party. That means the person elected is the MP, and they are accountable to their constituents, not permanently bound to a party label. When an MP chooses to cross the floor, the election result is not cancelled, and no votes are erased. The same elected representative continues to serve the same riding. What changes is the party they sit with in Parliament, not the fact that they were chosen by voters. If democracy meant locking MPs to a party forever, then voters would have no real choice beyond selecting a party list. That is not how Canada’s system works. Floor crossing can be controversial, but it exists because MPs are elected as individuals within a parliamentary democracy where accountability happens at the ballot box, not through party handcuffs mid term.

@dioscuri My entire hypothesis lies in that Americans are fat because they have such goated food we just don’t have it the same in Canada but we’re close for me to experience how good the USA has it a lot

Europeans like to scoff at American gluttony, but an underrated factor in the US obesity crisis is that American food is just unreasonably good. Not fine dining specifically, but the average sports bar or taqueria or diner food is just much tastier than typical Euro equivalents

🚨 do you understand what kim jong un is actually doing right now.. everyone thinks north korea is abandoning iran out of fear.. that's the dumbest read possible.. kim just watched the US commit its entire military to a war it can't finish.. carrier groups in the gulf.. $7 million a day per strike group.. cruise missiles at $1.5 million each.. the pentagon stretched thinner than it's been since iraq and afghanistan ran simultaneously.. and he thought.. "this is the best negotiating position i'll ever have".. when your enemy is bleeding money and attention fighting someone else.. that's not when you hide.. that's when you walk up to the table.. because right now the US needs one less problem more than it's ever needed anything.. and kim is offering exactly that.. for a price.. north korea isn't leaving iran.. it's selling iran.. trading its oldest alliance for whatever trump will give in return.. sanctions relief.. recognition.. security guarantees.. the same things kim has wanted for 20 years but could never get because the US had no reason to give them.. iran's war just became kim's leverage.. this is the most rational move on the board.. and the fact that nobody in this thread sees it means it's working...
