@larrykingundead @BryanBaugh Completely agree. I love the thin veil of brutal realism over laying what's either a monster movie or a movie about a man who believes he's a monster. The latter I find more haunted because of what it implies about Martin's family.

@DannyMerrick @BryanBaugh What Bryan described as for feeling about The Crazies, I feel about Martin. It's Romero's best film. So intimate, twisted, sad, enthralling.

The 2010 remake of The Crazies isn't just a better movie compared that what it's remaking, but it's also a better Resident Evil movie than any of the official Resident Evil movies have been or will be.

@BryanBaugh @larrykingundead This. It's extremely flawed but the flaws are charming to me. Similar to Martin that I never want a remake of.

The original version of The Crazies affects me in a very personal way. Partly because it has that special feel (similar to the first Evil Dead) of a movie with an ambitious vision, made by very motivated individuals with almost no money and no "real/Hollywood" film industry support or involvement. Which is a very wonderful, unique thing, impossible to duplicate (when it works). On a more personal level, it is also one of those movies (there's a short list of them - other Romero films like Dawn of the Dead, and Martin, and Don Dohler's Nightbeast, and Douglas Mckeown's The Deadly Spawn come to mind) that was filmed in and around small town suburbia, in my tri-state area, during the late 70s/early 80s, when I was a kid. And it LOOKS and FEELS like the world I grew up in as a kid. Not just the terrain but the decor, the fashions, the time period. Because it was filmed by "normal people" probably using their own clothes and filming in their own, or friends and families' properties, it really captures that small town, middle class, midwest. late 70s/ early 80s world at that precise time.
