this isn't the case with small to mid-size companies because they're "less desirable" aka the average employee doesn't get 1000 coffee chat requests per day on LinkedIn which lead to referrals
this isn't the case at startups because there's few enough employees, where even if one or two people gave a lot of referrals, there isn't much bloat to look through
