@TheShawnHendrix I can’t write or amend any NFIP FEMA policies today. It says “Transactions cannot be issued due to hiatus”

@williamwolfe After profiting off of Ubering for the event. Apparently not morally opposed enough to not taken their money.

@TheShawnHendrix There is a La-Z-Boy store here in Wilmington. I went in and tested a ton before I decided on the ideal chair to rock my new baby in. That was 4 years ago and still love the chair.

@C_3C_3 We watch everything with closed caption on. It works especially well with cartoons or movies they’ve seen multiple times. For children with learning difference they sometimes learn words as whole pieces and are never good at sounding out and phonics but they can memorize words.

@Oilfield_Rando Did you see how blue New Hanover county voting was this past election cycle? They are already here. It’s been a steady incoming stream since Covid.

@danescalise Is there any update to the cuts being made to the Pre-K program and the families that will lose their spots? Is there a possibility of funding this a different way?

It has taken significant time and effort, but New Hanover County has finally approved its budget. This budget prioritizes two critical areas: (1) the taxpayers of New Hanover County; and (2) essential county services.
Here are the key details: The budget increases funding for public schools, including raises for teachers, and allocates additional resources to the sheriff’s office, district attorney, seniors, and veterans. These core services merit robust public investment, and all five county commissioners have consistently supported these funding levels throughout the budget process. However, the budget adopted by Chair Bill Rivenbark, Vice-Chair LeAnn Pierce, and me differs from earlier proposals by focusing on necessities rather than discretionary spending. Many residents, including seniors on fixed incomes, face financial constraints, and we owe it to them to limit spending to what is truly essential.
The current property tax rate of 45 cents per $100 of assessed value will decrease to 30.6 cents, the second-lowest among all North Carolina counties. How did we increase funding for schools and public safety while reducing the tax rate and cutting $36 million from the budget? Chair Rivenbark, Vice-Chair Pierce, and I conducted a thorough review of county spending, eliminating expenditures that did not align with essential needs. Necessary services were preserved; non-essential items were removed.
This budget also introduces a significant policy shift. The county will no longer fund select nonprofits or NGOs, a practice long embedded in our budgeting process. With a $1.6 billion endowment, created from the sale of our hospital, nonprofits should seek funding through The Endowment or private contributions. This change ensures fairness and transparency in how public funds are allocated. We sincerely thank The Endowment for agreeing to fund nonprofits previously included in proposed budgets, providing a one-year transition that immediately relieves taxpayers of these costs.
Residents have repeatedly called for fiscal discipline, and this budget delivers. While I regret it was not unanimously adopted, the majority remained committed to funding essential services without overburdening taxpayers.
Budgets require tough choices and compromises. Guided by Chair Rivenbark, Vice-Chair Pierce, and me, this budget puts the people of New Hanover County and their core services first. We are committed to maintaining this approach in future budgets.

@business showed up to a house that had been broken into with a crowbar. The front door was mangled and barely locked. I begged for a refund or to be rebooked but they gave the host days to “fix” the door which still wasnt fixed by the time we left and then deleted my review @AirbnbHelp

@OddreyMonkey @JackPosobiec And how awful that room smelled! I worked at a video store and hated putting away the special video tapes. The movie names were the same but just had numbers in the series and the boxes were ALWAYS out of order so you had tonlool at every row! I got quite the education at 18!

@JackPosobiec This generation will never experience the thrill of discovering that room in the back of the store which kept the "Special" tapes.

@CheerFessions1 People who think they can’t benefit from collaboration are very small minded and immature. But hey if you think you already know everything and don’t need any improvements don’t be mad when the next newest hard worker passes you up.
