So I’ve decided to finally take the jump and post some gamedev on THE TWATTERS. I feel a little silly doing so after wasting so many years arguing about Star Wars, but it is what it it is. Better late than never! Got a bit of work to waveswim done, and I implemented some new systems where when you smack fish about they spin around a bit, it's a twist on stun that I think will be a great means of allowing the player to really dominate weak fish, but enemies that are immune to this sort of control will be much harder to fight. There is so much about this that is rough around the edges and needs improving part of me wants to never make a public update, but I also realize that it’s important we at least try to post this crap, start figuring out what sticks, or at the very least, forum slide all the stupid crap we shit posted over all these deranged years XD SeaCrit is not perfect, dunno how much further we have to go until it’s actually worth showing off, but i figure eh, let’s try to start getting our head into this marketing game and try to feel this space out, we have nothing to lose. I'm going to guess we get maybe 12 views on this post and we’ll be lucky to get a single reply, but we gotta start somewhere. That said I do think our project is becoming pretty neat and hopefully not a total waste of others' time. #indiegaming

@joni_askola You forgot someone I used to like this guy, but he's become so taken by sunk cost and self importance he's gone completely friggin' mad. They're stupefying the world, then preying on that stupidity. It's dangerous.

Over the last few years, American tech oligarchs have become the greatest argument against their own existence. The sheer scale of their erratic behavior and political interference proves that extreme wealth concentration is a structural threat to society

Twattering is 33% presenting ill formed opinion as fact, 33% gushing that marketing is more important than execution to butter up the other up their ass founders, and 33% engagement farming asking the audience for their take on this tired "founder" behavior. Am I crazy or is literally everyone running the same playbook faking it till they make it? It's like the world has been taken over by founder bots, proclaiming unassailable knowledge of business and producing valuable tech, while having never done anything of the sort. And these are the people with all the money and sway dictating the course of humanity.

Only if we push for excellence elsewhere. We don't. It will just lead to more apathy, laziness and diminishing human potential on a global scale. The value we place on humans executing and performing is diminishing at exponential rates, and that is supremely dangerous. But these guys seem so absurdly sure that the AI will pick up the slack, or people they control with access to the AI. It's awful.

There are good things here, they can achieve a level of polish. The art style is cool borrowing from old school Mickey(if totally overdone presently). But I hear ya, they're indulging in scripted events and fancy one off camera movements and animations to sell the game. Typical sort of audience manipulation without really having much game here speaking for itself. But what can ya do? We're living in the era of party tricks and success by any means possible in indie dev.

This looks like a pretty carefully crafted concept trailer but nothing else. If it’s indie, I would say it looks better to show one thing for any game, gameplay. Right now, I can’t tell you if any of these assets, mechanics, or even the look will translate to a final game. Not a good first impression. IMO

As a gameplay system coder, I can't even begin to tell you how fucked AI is for systems such as these. The way you lay out your logics and organize properties, and even think about how and where things increment and interact is so crucial and custom to each and every game, and the AI is not going to have an overall understanding of the nature of these things. AI, if guided in the right direction can do some neat stuff, but it's not a magic bullet, and a great deal of projects and developers are going to suffer stunted self actualization from leaning too hard on it and not developing core competencies, much like a supposed mathematician that uses a calculator for basic arithmetic. AI can supercharge the learning phase, and bring to your fingertips a wealth of amazing workflows, but if you lean on it too hard, it will stunt you.

Gamedev tip: 1. You're tired or burned out 2. Take a break 3. Exactly 3 seconds later new game idea comes to mind 4. "I'd love to work on it" 5. Realise you have free will 6. Start working on that new idea 7. Get it done in a week 8. Come back to the other game well rested 9. "Oh yeah I wanted to take a break, well, I'm not tired anymore so I'll keep working" It's all in your head people. Anyway I got like 5 games coming up (Yes I know step 7 sounds crazy but I believe in you)

I know it sounds crazy, but you really gotta just try to enjoy the ride. If you're not dead yet, if you're still excited for your project, and it's better today than it's ever been, and it's going to be better tomorrow than it is today, then you gotta just try to enjoy the ride more. These days of piss and vinegar aren't going to last forever. We're burning the candle at both ends, we're working endlessly on this crazed tech and exploring neat little systems no one's ever created before. There's some level of satisfaction to take in that! Success happens once and then it's all downhill from there, enjoy the climb. Lots of people with deep pockets and lots of clout would give the world to be in positions like this. You can't buy this, you gotta bust your ass, take solace in that. Anyhow, i spend way too much energy on TWATTERS any more, I gotta get to work now that this caffeine is entering the bloodstream.

1000%! It's blindly following the money and as Steve Jobs himself would have said, putting the power in the darned marketing teams with their goofy ideals over the product that got us here to begin with. There is more to business and life even than just collecting bank notes. So nice to see a handful of you guys in tech acting beyond the profit margins and putting your reputations on the line amidst the jokers and back scratchers. Until more people with the means stand up for what's right our culture which is molded by the digital spaces we interact with will continue to stagnate!

To a degree he was speaking to his own personal project of Overwatch, but he was speaking on behalf of the echo chamber of the AAA industry as a whole, and against gamers as a whole. People absolutely have the right to talk crap about systems and graphics and whatever the heck they want. That's how the economy is SUPPOSED to work. It's how consumers get what they want. It's also how game companies stay healthy and keep profitable games. This is a mutually beneficial process of feedback that has been lost in recent years.

@DeveloperPerso3 @Pirat_Nation I'm actually not in the industry, actually outside of it. Biggest game in the world came out of Roblox. You are correct though, if someone hates FPS games, has no intent of playing them then that opinion is invalid. That's exactly what Jeff was saying, but misquoted.

I had an inkling you might have been in the industry, there's a lot of "comradre" among gamedevs these days and a lot of people post on their alts in this manner nowadays. That's cool though, no joke, I'm assuming maybe you worked at blizzard, there was a time I once wanted to work there. No, that opinion would not be seen as valid. But you're free to make it. But what if you were a huge FPS fan, and you disliked it for various other reasons, would that feedback not be valid simply because you didn't play the game?

@DeveloperPerso3 @Pirat_Nation This is my alt. I worked for the company that created the biggest game of all time, I'll let you figure out what that is. Jeff is absolutely correct. If I hate FPS games, and I criticise Halo for being an FPS. Is my opinion valid?
