Over the past three years the government has ordered police in riot gear to beat people who stood up for their communities when the government rammed fake asylum seekers into IPAS centres built with no planning permission. There was zero legal recourse for the locals. Now this authoritarian government who selectively choose what laws to obey are threatening to turn police batons on bus drivers, farmers and hauliers instead of engage their entirely reasonable concerns with dialogue. The army is being dispatched to make sure the people who make Ireland run take their beating like good peasants if it comes to that. This government is determined to provoke mass civil disobedience. 👇👇👇

Is the government going to tell Gardaí to put on riot gear, helmets and use batons against school bus drivers, farmers? This government is escalating the situation rather than simply talking to the protesters. Talk to the protesters now.

Martin and Harris are angry with the fuel protestors because they are used to dealing with NGO heads who they control through direct funding, and Trade Union heads who are political insiders. NGOs and Unions are necessary to keep up the guise of 'public consultation' and suppress real dissent. What we are seeing this week is a significant tear in the carefully constructed illusion of democracy in Ireland and the reaction - police and army deployed rather than consultation with the real regular people of Ireland - is the government at its most raw and real. 👇👇👇

We accept the right of people to protest but this is not a fair protest. Denying people the right to fuel and to clean water. These are essentials. Warnings to pregnant women to go much earlier to health appointments because of the blockade is not fair.

Maybe the Irish government should resign. They don't seem capable. Who would have known that primary school teachers and those with zero business experience wouldn't be capable of running a country?

Watch as the Irish PM shoves passed working class Irishman, refusing to even acknowledge him or dare make eye contact. Traitors to the people who pay their wages!

@Independent_ie The Taoiseach has been using cruel taxation to blockade fuel from struggling Irish workers, families and businesses. I'm glad the Taoiseach now sees that this is national sabotage and dangerous. He must now resign.
