“25% foreign-born” is accurate Eurostat/CSO puts Ireland at ~23-25% today. Govt’s own CSO medium scenario feeding Project Ireland 2040 projects ~40% born overseas in the next few decades. But that headline figure doesn’t capture the children born here to foreign parents. 1 in 4 births are now to non-Irish mothers. The real demographic shift is even bigger, we are giving our country away.

Jordan Peterson lays out the hard cognitive reality from US Army data after 100+ years of trying to train everyone they will not recruit anyone with an IQ below 83 because there is literally no job in the military they can be trained to do competently. It’s not prejudice it’s that they become counterproductive at any level. For the native Irish population, with average IQ estimates typically in the 96–100 range Irish samples, that same threshold captures roughly 13–19% of native Irish people. That’s not a small number it means a significant chunk of our own population is in the zone where “there’s no job you could capably do” without massive support or simplification. So yes, some of those long-term Irish “jobseekers” aren’t just lazy a portion are bumping up against hard cognitive limits. We can and should tighten welfare for those who won’t work, but pretending every low-employment case is choice ignores the facts. This also should have implications for who is allowed to enter the country, as the average IQ levels in many non EU countries are far below 83. Which means they are highly likely to be dependent on handouts.

@OffgridIreland The Roma and those who can work but don’t, shouldn’t be here. There are plenty of long term Irish ‘jobseekers’ who should get reduced payments - some of these people are bigger leeches than any foreigner. Anyone who works hard, (foreign or not) should be rewarded.

@OffgridIreland Figures don’t tell the story if you don’t factor in an ‘Irish native’ could be receiving that payment for many years vs a recent immigrant would be receiving it for less time. Over a long period, one person (Irish or not) could be more of a burden than ten people put together.

Yes, and @MichealMartinTD stopped smoking in pubs, others ended the criminalisation of homosexuality, liberalised sexual health and made many other positive changes. Ireland today is a much better place than it was in the 1980s. Not perfect, but better.
