R500 wasn't the only thing she was getting

[JUST IN] Natasha Phiri, SABC Political journalist, has been suspended following revelations at the Madlanga Commission she was paid R500 by Sergeant Fannie Nkosi. The money was allegedly in exchange for providing the contacts of controversial entertainment blogger Musa Khawula.

I can't get my head around this story. Don't get me wrong: this is unethical behaviour regardless of the amount. But this R500 situation is...just....haai man. R500?

🇿🇦 A 35-year-old labour law attorney, Chinette Gallichan, was shot dead in broad daylight outside the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) offices in Johannesburg, South Africa on Monday morning.
She had just arrived for a case when a man approached her as she exited her vehicle and opened fire at close range before fleeing to a waiting car.
Gallichan was reportedly representing a well-known mining company in a dispute involving retrenched workers seeking compensation.
Nothing was stolen, and early indications suggest a targeted hit.

STRONGER RAND HITS LUCKY STAR OWNER
Oceana Group, Africa’s largest fishing company, has reported a dip in operating profit for the five months ending 22 February 2026.
Despite consistent revenue, the owner of Lucky Star faced a perfect storm of an 80% collapse in South African fishmeal production and a 45% plunge in global fish oil prices.
A severe shortage of anchovy and red-eye herring landings drove unit costs higher, while a stronger Rand eroded export earnings.
However, the Lucky Star division remained a resilient standout, with sales volumes growing 6.7% as consumers increasingly turned to canned fish as an affordable protein source.
